The cause
The Hollis-Haynes Ring of Fire is a hot sauce eating competition in support of colorectal cancer research. Participants challenge themselves to eat 10 hot wings, each with a spicier sauce than the previous, while raising money for colorectal cancer research.
The challenge
The organization needed to recruit supporters who raise money to participate in their yearly event. Their goal was to increase community engagement, expand the donor pool, as well as build and solidify the organization’s relationship with their top supporters.
The solution
FundRazr’s peer-to-peer fundraising solution allowed Ring of Fire the creativity to run an unlimited number of fun (and spicy) campaigns to get far greater reach of their cause with their own custom registration form, registration fee, goal, and deadline.

$70,000 total raised
Sparking generosity through repeated, success fundraising
The Ring of Fire’s peer-to-peer fundraising event takes a bold and creative turn with hot wings. Immediately catching the attention of supporters, the campaign begins their pitch with an imposing question: “Are you willing to wreck your rectum for research?”.
Participants register and commit to eating ten very spicy chicken wings, gather pledges from friends and family which make up the donations to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, and on the evening of the event, participants meet and challenge their wings.
The idea was so successful that in their first year of fundraising, their campaign raised over $18k, surpassing their $10k goal.
In the second year, they raised over $23.2k, surpassing their $18.8k goal.
In the third year, they raised over $23.5k, surpassing their $23.2k goal.
FundRazr’s delightful time saver – cloning a campaign made it easy for the organization to run the same campaign every year (or multiple times a year) and don’t want to rebuild the whole campaign each time.
A seamless peer-to-peer fundraising experience even for large-scale events
It’s no easy feat to run a large-scale peer-to-peer event like the Ring of Fire. However, FundRazr’s complete peer-to-peer fundraising suite allowed the organization to launch a seamless giving experience.
