Better Than Free Inc hasn't added a story.
We believe water is a basic human right and that everyone should
have access to clean drinking water so we decided to make bottled
water FREE. Our spring water in aluminum bottles and paper cartons is
free because we use the packaging as ad space. More importantly, we
donate a minimum of ten cents from each beverage to charity to build
water wells for people in need. That means saving lives is now as
simple as saving money and drinking FreeWater! More than a product or
company, this is a movement to ensure everyone gets
access to basic human needs across the globe in the most eco-friendly
manner possible.
The
global water crisis currently affects 10% of the world population.
FreeWater was designed to make saving lives as simple as drinking free
water. For every 150 waters that we freely distribute we are saving a
life by providing a clean source of water through our donations to
build water wells. We donate a minimum of ten cents per water to Well
Aware because they have a 100% guarantee that their water projects
will work for life! Click here to learn
more about Well Aware.
The world is
producing a million plastic bottles per minute and only 9% are
being recycled. That’s half a trillion plastic bottles each
year that will end up in landfills or the ocean. Things have become
so bad that scientists predict plastic will
outweigh fish in our oceans by 2050.
Our Ad Medium
We are currently using various manufacturers from across the USA to source our natural spring water for our aluminum bottles and paper cartons. We are looking for help to increase our volume which will lower our costs by as much as 50% and put FreeWater in more people’s hands. Our waters are mini billboards that fit in the palm of your hand and come along with you wherever you go. We also use QR codes to connect to anything on the internet. Examples: websites, videos, news, social media, podcasts, apps, augmented reality, coupons, shopping, menu, appointment setting, contests, donate now, buy now, community outreach, educational materials, and much more.
Free
vending machines will be accessible through the FreeWater app which
will limit our users to 1-3 free drinks/snacks per person daily.
Vending machines typically hold between 300 to 1,000 bottles and we
believe that after placing them in the right locations they will be
emptied daily. That means every individual free vending machine will
raise between $10,000 - $36,000 to build water wells annually.
Free Local Delivery
Our vehicles will be covered in advertising which will allow us to operate our first fleet of delivery vehicles for no money out of pocket. We will use the free trucks to deliver products to thousands of consecutive homes and businesses. When the truck is emptied, it will simply return to the micro-factory to refill and start back up at the house they left off. This level of efficiency will allow us to include free local delivery while saving up to 500% of the current costs associated with last mile delivery. The same goes for collecting the recyclables - trash collectors will pick up the rubbish and bring them back to a nearby facility for recycling.
We
are creating a network of micro-factories that will serve local
communities. Since our water is free everyone is a customer! That will
enable us to make deliveries to thousands of consecutive homes and
businesses. If you don’t want us to deliver to your doorstep you can
come and pick up your FreeWater at the micro-factory. This is an
extremely green business model that will enable us to distribute goods
in a fraction of the carbon footprint of Amazon, Walmart, or Target.
Future Free Supermarket
FreeWater is just the first product of our future ‘free supermarkets’ and each product will donate to a different charitable cause. Free products enable new ways to manufacture and distribute that are extremely green. Free groceries will lower USA food waste substantially because 30% of groceries are thrown out at the market since they are too expensive so they are not purchased. Additionally, many of those products travel from across the globe to get to our local supermarkets just to be thrown away. We want the world to think of us as the Whole Foods of free groceries not the 99 Cent Store.
Compare Our Water With Dasani
FreeWater is FREE natural spring water, each water donates a minimum of ten cents to water well charities, and we never use plastic bottles. Dasani is purified tap water that costs 2000x the price of the tap water in your home. This is equivalent to paying $10,000 for a slice of pizza! We currently offer FreeWater in aluminum bottles and paper cartons because they are the greenest options that are available for our startup to use today. Our long term goal is to manufacture the world’s first 100% hemp cartons and a fully circular supply chain.

About Our Founder
Josh’s vision to create this company comes after what might be considered an atypical “founder path.” Born and raised in Los Angeles, he started investing his own money in the stock market at the age of ten when he turned a free lemonade stand into a $30,000 investment in Microsoft. As a young adult, he spent a lot of his time traveling across the country in a motorhome, and in the year 2012, he joined the Army as an airborne infantryman. After the military, Josh took a trip around the world for his 30th birthday where he planned to visit 100 countries in four years. During the trip, he met two Nigerian refugees in Rome and after hearing the story of them fleeing their country due to a lack of basic necessities like food and water and the threat of death, he decided to cancel the rest of his trip and dedicate his time to volunteering. He then started an NGO called “Save The Refugees” in Belgrade, Serbia which distributed food, water, clothing, and toys to more than 10,000 people in need. Talking with the migrants, Josh realized that a large number of them were on the move because they came from places that lacked access to basic human necessities. Josh was compelled to change that and he started to envision the idea behind FreeWater. In September of 2017, he had an epiphany and realized that one could make nearly everything in the world free via a number of different processes, many of which we use today.
By the year 2019, Josh decided to move to Silicon Valley to learn the ins and outs of the technology needed to make this idea come to life. “That time in Silicon Valley was very important for my development because I was able to refine my inventions, was introduced to all types of tech and innovations ranging from self-driving cars to watching computer hackers at work, and I got to see what everyone else was working on,” said Josh. “I quickly realized that no one was working on anything that was even closely similar to what I was doing. It helped me to confirm that I was 100% on the right path and my wife and I moved to Austin in the summer of 2019.” Cliffords currently resides in Austin, where FreeWater Inc. is headquartered.
