I am not sure the situation could could have gotten a whole lot worse for these two, Rocky and Princess. I received an email with a request for help. Here is the text from the email:

"Rocky is an Aussie mix male, about 40-45 lbs., who watches over--acts like a combination big brother and guardian angel to--little Princess, who is 15-20 lbs. and looks like a Chihuahua mix. Princess has an old leg injury; she can walk only with great difficulty (see video). She literally leans on Rocky to walk, and he waits for her. Comment I received: "You do realize Princess actually leans on Rocky for balance. Rocky won't leave the kennel without her. He watches out for her, but is such a sweet dog. We have to get them both rescued or adopted." BOTH ARE ON EUTH LIST AND CAN be put down any time; our biggest fear, next to losing both of them, is that one is saved and the other not."

Well, Princess has been to a veterinarian in Duplin County where the shelter is. She needs the right front leg amputated. And, she is Heartworm positive.

So, that's ALL of the bad news.

The good news??? They are both nice dogs. Friendly and loving with people and with other dogs. And, Rocky, thankfully is Heartworm NEGATIVE.

***We want to get these dogs OUT of the shelter tomorrow  morning (8/26). We want to get Princess started on her heartworm treatment, get her body in better condition, have the front leg amputated so she can move about like any other 3 legged dog.***

An estimate for heart worm treatment is around $500. And, our veterinarian in the south has quoted $500 for amputation. Those are the biggies and that is what we're hoping our dog loving community will support.
