To divert youth from homelessness by creating informed and responsible tenants that have the supports needed for a healthy and stress free move.

Each year in Ontario, 800-1,000 youth move out of foster care, into a world they are unprepared for. While their peers are enjoying their youth, foster youth are fighting an uphill battle for survival. Nearly half of all youth who have experienced the child welfare system, also experience homelessness while more than 42.1% of their peers in Ontario live with their parents. This is the largest observed in all the provinces and territories. Too many youth leave the child welfare system with little to no credit, incomplete high school, the task of finding or working a part time job, and preparing for post secondary education. All this while surviving on as little as $850 a month. Also, studies have shown that moving is just as stressful as getting a divorce or becoming a parent. Too many Ontario child welfare youths are experiencing homelessness and are not adequately prepared to navigate coping with their actual moving day or to find and maintain safe and stable shelter. Creating Roots is a federally incorporated non-profit founded by a former youth in care. We work with child welfare agencies to provide unique, all-encompassing transitional housing education and moving services to youth exiting the foster care system in Ontario. |  |

Most teens who leave care do not have and have NEVER had a bed of their very own. One that will never be taken away from them. Lets make that happen for our youth, together!
Youth need to know their rights, responsibilities, the law, about credit, eviction prevention and more! We help educate these young folks with everything they need to be the tenant that landlords are looking for!
Teens leaving care often don't have the means or support to physically move their belongings. We do that!
Our support never ends and we will never close a young persons file. If they need us to guide them in 6 months or 6 years, we will be there for them.
