Apifera Farm is a non profit animal sanctuary in mid coast Maine. They adopt elder/special needs aniamls, but they also share them with elder people through on site visits and visits to elder homes. They have been a sanctuary for over 20 years but in 206 when they moved from Oregon to Maine, became a non profit with an added mission of helping bring joy to elder people with their animals.

The Healing Barn project will provide a safe barn situated amongst the other barns, allowing the elder visitors to sit amongst nature and animals. these will be intimate one-on-one visits, or small in design. MAny of the elder people we visit have given up their homes and animals. Visits tot he farm bring great emotions out, and the elders feel like someone is listening to them as they share stories and memories. The animals also help bring out stories.
