Hayden Bridge, a rare 1882 Whipple Truss bridge built of wrought and cast iron members, spans the scenic McKenzie River in Springfield, OR. It features two milestones in the history of wrought iron bridge building, the Whipple-Murphy truss and the Phoenix column. Originally manufactured as a replacement to an original crossing for the Transcontinental Railroad in Corrine, UT but it was moved to Springfield, OR in 1901 where it remained in service until 1987. Earlier this summer the Weyerhaeuser Company gave it to Workin' Bridges, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving bridges, for $1, along with their blessing to transform the forgotten trestles and the surrounding area into a brand new park with river access, benches and bike trails. Now we need to raise the funds to complete our vision in restoring this beautiful bridge and to create a new park. To complete this project, we need to raise $100,000 US.
