We don't ask often, but when we needed your help — you came
through! And we can't THANK YOU enough!
While we keep a tight rein on spending, every now and
then we need to replenish our coffers. Readers stepped up to help us
meet our budget goal for the 2021 watchdog year!
If you haven't already, there's still time to contribute.
Ninety-five percent of your contributions go toward public
record filing fees (CORAs), attorney counsel and legal action. Our
all-volunteer board and reporters spend many hours every week
attending public meetings and posting highlights of public interest.
We provide commentary and insight into complex LOCAL government
activities while providing a forum for public participation and comment.
When necessary, we seek legal council concerning ethics, open
meeting and budget statutes. For example, we recently filed an ethics
complaint against a high-ranking county official and won the right to
a hearing — a major hurdle in the state's Independent Ethics
Commission process.
Our work is cut out for us. Successful outcomes, however,
sends a clear and vital message to our county officials that we
demand the highest in ethical standards, transparency and representation.
