Furry Friends Foster and Rescue, Inc. hasn't added a story.
Please help us begin the New Year ready and able to help provide more
urgent dogs with new beginnings and happy endings.
We can only do that with YOUR help and support!
In this season of giving, please give as generously as you can
- we cannot do this without you!
When we look back on 2019, we have done a LOT. We have big
plans for 2020. We want to do more! We can only do so with your help
and support. As a 501(c)(3) approved not-for-profit organization we
are totally dependent upon YOU - our fellow animal advocates,
friends, followers, supporters, and donors - to continue to help the
dogs who need us the most.
A large part of our mission is to help dogs with significant
medical and/or behavioral needs - dogs who need substantial medical
treatment of training - dogs that would be difficult to adopt from a
shelter, or that another rescue might pass by.
In 2019 or medical cases included:
Noodles for congenital defects - and elongated soft palate and bilateral cryptorchidism (both of his testicles were undescended);
Rumples for metastatic mast cell cancer;
Rosey for two torn ACLs;
Zoe for a myriad of medical issues including a skin infection so serious she lost fur on 75% of her body, two ear infections, eye infections, and a severe urinary tract infection - all of which necessitated a 1-month stay at our vet's office and ongoing care;
Beauregard for removal of a juvenile cataract that caused him to be blind in one eye;
Greta for an emergency splenectomy due to a lesion on her spleen which, if it had burst, would have cost her her life;
Maple for removal of one of her eyes due to end stage glaucoma and increased pressure in the eye which was causing her pain;
Plus a host of other medical issues in dogs coming into the
rescue, and ongoing medical issues for dogs already in the rescue.
Midas, Lady, Locke, Bullet, Jaidyn and Ansley all went
through, or are in the midst of, long residential training programs
to help them become the best dogs they can be.
Midas and Bullet were subsequently adopted.
Locke is currently in a foster-based training program to finish up work on some unresolved issues.
Ansley, who has been in our rescue for quite some time, recently exhibited some concerning behaviors and is in a foster-based training program as well.
Lady is currently in a foster-based training program, having transitioned from her first trainer, who had a kennel-based program.
Jaidyn, fairly new in our rescue, is also in a foster-based
training program. She spent 2-1/2 years in a shelter and another 8
months in a rehabilitation/sanctuary setting. When the rehab closed
down, we were asked to help. She is only five years old, and has
spent more than half of her life in a shelter setting.
Rowdy, who is new in our rescue, is in a foster-based training
program after having spent over 6 months of his 10-month life in a
pound in CT.
Anyone who has a dog as a family member knows how expensive
medical care and training can be. Just imagine that multiplied by 45
- the approximate number of dogs in our rescue at any given time.
Our expenses for medical care in 2019 were approximately
$85,000. Our expenses for training for 2019 were approximately
$45,000. We are still paying down the training bills for Midas and
Locke, as well as covering ongoing training expenses for the other
dogs still in training.
As a result of the above, at present both our dedicated
training and medical funds are empty.
We cannot continue to take dogs with substantial medical or
training needs unless and until we replenish those funds. We MUST
ensure that we have the capacity to meet the needs of dogs already
in the rescue before we take on others who need medical care beyond
the normal vetting we give to all of our dogs and/or residential training.
The hardest thing any rescue does is to say "NO" to
a dog needing help. However, as a responsible rescue, we know that
we must sometimes say that - we can't help them all - but we want to
help as many as we can - and YOUR donations are the only way we can
do that!
Your donations, in any amount, will ensure that we begin the
New Year ready to provide assistance to the dogs who need us.
