Traditional Carpet Runners: Pathways of Dignity and Respect
We invite you to sponsor the traditional carpet runners that will grace the interior of the Sakya Temple of Peace. These 8 carefully-selected textiles, each valued at $750, will create appropriate pathways through our sacred space while honoring the aesthetic traditions of Tibetan Buddhism.
Unlike permanent architectural elements, these carpet runners serve both practical and ceremonial functions. They define processional routes for formal rituals, provide suitable surfaces for prostrations, and create dignified pathways for approach to sacred objects. Their placement throughout the temple guides movement in accordance with traditional protocols that show proper respect for a sacred space.
The selected carpets feature traditional motifs and colours that complement the temple's overall design aesthetic. Each runner incorporates auspicious symbols and patterns that resonate with Buddhist iconography while meeting practical needs for durability in a temple environment.
In traditional Buddhist temples, textiles play a significant role in creating a complete sacred environment. These carpet runners contribute to the temple's warmth and acoustic quality, while establishing visual continuity throughout different areas of the space.
You can sponsor one or more carpet runners at $750 each, helping to furnish the Sakya Temple of Peace in the traditional Tibetan Buddhist manner.
The Sakya Temple of Peace is currently being built in Kambah, Canberra. This will be a new Tibetan Buddhist temple in the nation's capital and a beacon of peace, kindness and understanding for Australia and the world.
We are so close to realising this dream, but we need your help!
To complete the project on time in only six months by September 2025, we need to raise $500,000 by 31 May 2025.
