Vilna Gaon Museum of Jewish History hasn't added a story.
In 2017, Samuel Bak Museum was opened in Vilnius as the first museum in the world, devoted solely to the art of this prominent Litvak artist.
Samuel Bak was born in 1933. At the age of nine he had already held his first exhibition of drawings. Samuel Bak miraculously survived the Holocaust and ended up in a displaced persons camp in Germany. After living in Israel and Europe, the artist settled in the United States where he continues his creative work, valued by art lovers and critics worldwide.
The artist has so far donated 54 of his works to Lithuania and to Samuel Bak Museum (which functions as a branch of the Vilna Gaon State Jewish Museum) and recently donated 50 more, which will supplement the Samuel Bak Museum.
By Lithuanian Government, next 2020 year is announced to be Vilna Gaon anniversary (1720-1797) and Lithuanian Jewish year. Many important commemorations is about to come in Lithuania and Jewish art, in particular S. Bak new artworks is bringing all these celebrations together. We understand the importance to exhibit the unique artworks of famous Litvak, as a proof to show the multicultural Vilnius memory, especially Jewish heritage to Vilnius citizens, guests and tourists today.
Your donations will be used for renewing the Samuel Bak Museum with new 50 artworks . We need to hire the professional designer for the preparation work. We also plan to add new Audio Guide, as storytellers, for new paintings (in Lithuanian and English). With your help, we could display these new paintings in the best way to all our visitors!
Thank you for helping us tell the story of Samuel Bak through his paintings!
