It's been a very scary day for PPR. Eli, our young Bull Terrier, got sick over the weekend and has gone downhill fast, leading to his hospitalization today.

Upon admitting Eli to the hospital, we immediately did full in-house blood testing including an I-STAT which showed that Eli is severely dehydrated. His general blood work showed that Eli has hepatotoxicity which means that there is some toxin affecting his liver. The rest of his metabolic values seemed to be within normal limits. We are unsure right now if the dehydration due to vomiting has caused this liver issue, or if we are dealing with something liver-specific which is causing the vomiting.

We sent out a liver-specific test to the lab to further evaluate the functioning of Eli's liver at this point. We also did abdominal xrays to rule out the possibility of a GI foreign body - on x-ray we saw a lot of fluid and gas in the stomach, but as of now, no foreign body. We are not ruling out this possibility yet, and may need to repeat x-rays tomorrow if he is not responding to the current treatment. Eli got a bolus of IV fluids which will hopefully help to jump start him and get him rehydtrated quickly. He will remain on these IV fluids at a steady pace around the clock. He has gotten antibiotic, anti-nausea and anti-diarrheal medications through IV as well.

We will continue to monitor through the night and it is likely that Eli will be hospitalized for the next few days. If there is a GI foreign body found, surgery will be performed IMMEDIATELY.

Right now, without the possibility of surgery factored in, Eli's bill is estimated to hit $3,000. In the past week alone we have taken in four new dogs to PPR, and two of them have special needs which have also jacked up our vet bills. We will NEVER refuse an animal treatment due to cost, but with this unexpected expense we are looking at an inability to help more animals until we are completely paid off. The need for funds is SUPER URGENT, and we rely solely on donations and our own funds in events like this.

PLEASE give what you are able, every single dollar makes a difference and all funds go directly toward Eli's care. If you'd like to donate directly through the vet, please call Bulls Head Pet Hospital at (203) 324-5711 and let them know to put your donation toward the Project Precious Rescue bill.

To thank you for your donation, donors who give $5 or over will receive a Project Precious Rescue rubber bracelet as a thank you for your contribution (to be mailed out at the close of the FundRazR)

Thank you all for your support!!!!
