Meet baby Bogart, who comes to us from Bridgeport with an unknown past. We were contacted by a member of the public about a 16 week old Pit Puppy they were given just days ago, who had a deformed leg. Unable to afford any vet care, they wanted to surrender him. We picked him up within hours and he is now safe with us. We do not know what caused his leg to be deformed, whether it is a genetic defect, lack of nutrition or a growth issue - we have seen issues like this before in puppies - but we won't guess until the doctors can decide. What we do know is that he's very tiny if he is in fact 16 weeks old - he weighs just 6.8 lbs. He appears to be more like 8 weeks old, or just very underweight.
We have consulted with our vet and he will have a full workup on Thursday. For now he's eating well and is resting after his adventurous night.
At BBR we never take in an animal unless we intend to do everything in our power to help them - and Humphrey Bogart is no exception. He will have the best doctors, the best food, lots of love and if needed, surgery.
