Project Precious Rescue, Inc. hasn't added a story.
Gizmo's story has been a sad one, riddled with pain and neglect.
Approximately two weeks ago, little 5 lb Gizmo found himself at our local shelter. He had a cast on his leg, but no one knew what his injury was. While at the shelter, Gizmo received no veterinary care or pain management. He was called aggressive because he was biting when anyone tried to handle him. But still, Project Precious wanted him! We were prepared to take him last week, but due to politics and laws that protect negligent pet owners, Gizmo had to sit at the shelter. That's right, approximately two weeks with no pain meds or veterinary care, even though we were ready and willing to help.
Finally, yesterday (October 30th) we were able to go bust Gizmo out of there! We took him straight to our vet, and we were horrified by what we found. Yes, Gizmo is biting. Of course he is. He had an open wound under his bandage and his leg was broken through, the bottom half dangling as if it wasn't attached. TWO WEEKS without pain management with an injury like that would have me biting, too.
Our amazing vet at Bulls Head Pet Hospital in Stamford immediately got Gizmo on pain medication and carefully re-wrapped his broken leg. For the first time in who knows how long, Gizmo slept comfortably overnight.
Today Gizmo went for a consult with Dr. Palmisano at VREC in Norwalk, and just as we suspected, Gizmo needs surgery to repair the break in his tiny leg. Surgery happens tomorrow afternoon and Gizzy is resting comfortably until then. We need your help to pay for his surgery, as we've already taken from funds needed for our 20+ other adoptable dogs and cats in order to put down a deposit. Once he's had his surgery and rested at VREC for the night, he will go to his foster home where he will need to rest and recover for 8 weeks.
This little guy has suffered needlessly and now it's time for us to show him what love is, to get him on the road to recovery, and to give him the chance to FINALLY start his life. He's still a baby, only 1-2 years old, he deserves everything we can give him!!
Every little bit counts, and we appreciate every effort to help us help Gizmo! Payment is due on Saturday when we pick him up after his surgery, so please share widely for this little dude!!
