Help Make their Dreams of Stars Come True and Keep Their Hope Alive!

War Has Brought Isolation and an Uncertain Future to Ukraine's Students

Every day, students in Ukraine brave air raids and power outages to continue their education and keep their dreams for the future alive.

Among the power outages, astronomy students saw a silver lining. When the power fails, the stars come out. This gateway to the heavens gives them a chance to look up and dream, just as children do elsewhere.

You can help keep them aiming for the stars.

Many of Ukraine's schools have sustained damage.

Classes move to air raid shelters two or three times a day.

Schools serve as refugee centers and many classrooms are overcrowded.

Help Keep These Students' Dreams Alive!

"When you want, you dream. They stopped dreaming." says Ukrainian psychologist Tatyana Fannouch. Students' plans for the future are endangered by the war’s impact on schools and the trauma the students and their teachers endure.

Oleksandra writes a telescope request in her notebook: "The sky mysteries call us. I love watching far-away stars. It would be great to see more of them and in more detail. That's why we need a telescope. It would be great to get it here, for our library. I often come to the library to participate in science classes. A telescope would be an incredible gift for all of us, kids and adults, who want to study astronomy"

A satellite image shows the effect of a year of war on the power systems of three cities. Students saw this as an opportunity to see the sky more clearly.

Astronomy for Equity is working with Earthlings Hub that is providing laptops and brought this opportunity to us, Ukraine Rescue Foundation who will include the telescopes in a shipment of humanitarian goods to keep our shipping costs down, and UNICEF Ukraine on the ground in Ukraine to respond to the students request for telescopes. Donate to help us bring the gift of astronomy to these students.

These three telescopes will be purchased in the U.S. and shipped directly to the schools in Chernivtsi, Kryvyi Rih, and Vinnytsia, Ukraine. These telescopes will inspire hundreds of Ukrainian students, providing excitement and motivation. And most important, hope and a sense that they are not alone.
