The Martha Creek Trail on Sale Mountain is a world class mountain bike ride and a destination trail for visitors from around the globe.
It is a unique ride, accessible via truck shuttle to the summit of Sale Mountain. Starting high in the alpine and ending on the shores of Lake Revelstoke, this trail measures in at 9km in length with over 5000 vertical feet of descent!
Established in August of 1991, this trail has been a classic Revelstoke ride for over 20 years.
Recently, mountain biking in this area has seen significant growth. Revelstoke is a now considered a world class mountain bike tourist destination. Visitors are coming from all around the world to ride our trails. They stay in our hotels and motels, they shop in our stores and they eat in our restaurants. For many of these visitors and locals alike, the Epic Martha Creek Trail is a must. Many riders come to town specifically for this trail!
Recent growth in Revelstoke’s mountain biking scene combined with funding cuts and downsizing within the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations means that the trail is seeing significant amounts of increased use and the province cannot keep up with the much needed trail maintenance.
There are currently several damaged, even dangerous, bridge crossings, countless erosion problems and numerous drainage issues which need to be addressed in order to turn Martha Creek into a thriving and sustainable trail.
The project is being organized by Wandering Wheels and Rec. Sites and Trails BC. Rec Sites and Trails BC will be providing all of the necessary lumber and materials for this project as well as volunteer insurance. Glacier Helicopters has agreed to transport the lumber to the worksites for the project.
This campaign is one of many fundraising initiatives for the project. There are also corporate sponsorship opportunities, and there will be a premiere of the movie Builder at the Roxy Theatre on June 11th, as well as other local fundraising events.
