Yesterday 3/31/19, a stray black cat was brought into Animal emergency service in Selden. His front leg is badly broken, his jaw was broken, and his eye is injured. They prepared him to be euthanized as repairing him would be quite expensive. But we were contacted before the injection was given and asked if we could help.

They held him overnight and had him on pain meds so we could pick him up today (4/1/19) and bring him to Long Island Spay and Neuter. Dr. Berger has been caring for Axel all day today. He’s extremely friendly, considering his extreme injuries. Tomorrow (4/2/19) Axel will have his front leg removed. The bones are no where near flush with each other for this to be an easy repair. He would need to be seen by a specialist surgeon and that bill would run us $2500-$3000. His jaw will also be wired at the site of the break. Dr. Berger expects this amazing cat to make a full recovery.

We are excited to get him home and comfortable so he can rest and heal.
