Hello, most of you know me and there are some who will read this and will not know me. My name is Kim Plump. I am 56 and I am the mother of Nicky Brian Plump. My son passed away on September 24, 2018 due to an overdose.
I am the mother of three amazing children. My oldest daughter is Paula who is 34, my only son Nicky who will be forever 30, and my youngest daughter Brooklyn who is 10.
My son leaves behind his wife Amanda and there 7 month old son. This disease runs deep in my family, as I'm sure it does in many other families in this world. Yet there are plenty of families who still try to hide it. "No, not my kid. He doesn't do drugs!
Let's be honest, either every child has tried it or will try it someday. My hat is off to you if you can pass it by in this day and age. Pour pressure is probably one of the main reasons kids today get started on drugs. I started going drugs when I was in school. At 32 I tried herion. Crazy right who starts a drug at 32 especially a drug that when you first start makes you sick. All I remember was hugging the toilet and vomiting all day. For the longest time I couldn't figure out why I would do a drug that would make me sick like that.
My addiction not only affected me but it affected both of my older children. When I was sick I couldn't do anything. As soon as my husband came home And I got my dope I was good. Well our addiction landed us in jail and our children paid the price for sure.
Paula and Nicky were as close as twins were. When you would see Paula, Nicky was sure to follow. When you would see Nicky, Paula was always with him. They did everything together. When our children went to school, other kids would tease them about us being in jail. Girls would pick on Paula. Nicky would see it and would run to protect her. Paula grew up very fast, she became the protective mother over Nicky.
Both children got married and lived in different states and always contuined to keep in contact with each other every day. I know Nick dipped and dab every now and then for the pain in in his knee. My son had gone for help and was doing great he was clean. My son got a promotion at work. They found out his wife was pregnant life was great for both of them.
My son got operated on for his leg he was doing great. He was excited he was getting ready to go back to work. Then the worse phone call comes the one know parent wants to get. I was told my son had overdosed by his dad. Overdosed what are you talking about Nicky has been clean. His dad said he overdosed on herion which didn't make sense to me. Blood work came back opioids which would be normal because Nick was on pain meds. Police said they found no evidence of any type in Nicks apartment.
September 24 will be 5 months and we are still waiting on the report. Pieces of the puzzle don't fit in 911 tape well that's a joke. My son was not a junkie my son was an awesome guy. My son loved life if you called Nick and needed his help he would be right there. My son had a smile that when he walked into a room it would light up.
The death of my son shattered everyone's life because Nick was clean. Nothing makes any sense. When Nick passed I went with him so did his sister's and his wife. Then I seen faces of opioids. I really thought I was the only one going threw this I couldn't believe how many family's are going threw what my family is. Then I seen little faces and that program caught my heart all those children without either one parent or both parents. At first I was hoping Nick story could help someone else. But it cant no one can make you get clean. Then I seen little faces needed help and I new some how I could help here. So I decided to run this fundraiser because Nicks birthday is in May. And I wanted to do something in memory of Nicky. I know this will not bring back my son. But what ever this memorial fundraiser can bring in. The program will be able to run alittle longer. So if you would please help me so we can help this program For these children. So if you click on Nick's picture you can see for yourself what little faces is all about.
Thank you Nicks family
We are at a critical stage in that we need to raise $7500 above the current $1887 raised to have funds for the second half of the year to continue our programs and our organization itself. The deadline is 7/31/2019. If we fall short of the total goal of $9,387 any funds raised will go to additional packages for Little Faces and the Catherine Martin Art Project. Our organization is 100% volunteer and 100% supported by members such as yourself! I am hopeful we will continue!!
Dead on the bathroom floor at work was all that went through my head when my best friend, Heather Jouget, died on May 6, 2017 of a heroin/fentanyl overdose. When very few people showed up for her funeral, I knew it was because heroin was tied to her death. Despite the fact she had worked for the state police for years as a dispatcher and commanded respect in that position, so many disassociated with Heather in her death. I felt there should never be shame in dying. I decided to start a Facebook group on June 11, 2017, that would show the faces and stories of people affected by the opioid epidemic.
This organization shares the faces and the stories of opioid addiction. According to the CDC, at least 630,000 have died in the United States since 1999 from an overdose. We are putting a face to this opioid epidemic. Opioids, such as FENTANYL, are in every state, city, and suburb. The time for being complacent is gone! Join us as we fight this epidemic and break the stigma.
One of the main projects of the organization is Little Faces which is a one of a kind program for children under the age of 18 who have lost a parent, sibling, or primary caretaker to the opioid epidemic. We provide each child a free memorial package, which includes a pillow made from the lost love one’s shirt or a stuffed animal, treats and cards throughout the year, and resource materials for the caregivers on grief and addiction. We raise money in order to make this a free service for the families and that is why we are asking for your help. We have over 400 children in our program that have enrolled since its inception in March 2018 and we do rounds of 40 children per round which is an estimated cost of $1500. We are also expanding our Little Faces program in 2019 to also adapt an education program that we can incorporate in schools and will be geared towards children that may have addiction already in their families.
Our other large project is the Wall of Faces, which shows the faces of people in recovery, active use, and people we have lost to the opioid epidemic. Faces of Opioids is currently collecting photos for our Virtual Wall of Faces. In order to bring more awareness to the opioids epidemic, we are planning to show these displays in 2019!! The hard work truly begins this year with us moving towards advocacy and not just awareness!! We will support MAT and Harm Reduction as we believe these are keys to stopping the epidemic or at least saving lives!!
Our desire is to make this donor drive a success and obtain our goal so that we will not need to do additional fundraising in 2019 for our Little Faces program and advocacy work!! All donations can be deducted from your taxes and we will provide a tax receipt!! We are asking each person or active member of our organization to donate at least $2 and if each one does then we will exceed our goal of $30k for 2019 as we have already raised $10k so far for 2019. If this group has given you any support or you wish to see change in this epidemic then we ask for you to please support us so we can continue our good works and spread awareness and support of this horrific epidemic.
Thank-you,
Melissa Anne Dunford
