“At the start of the war we thought it was hard. Now it is hard.”
Ukrainian women, Democracy
Development Center NGO
Dear Friends & Family,
Greetings and Best Wishes from the Women Refugees Advocacy Project.
Once again, we are reaching out to you to share news of current conditions in Ukraine and provide a sense of the on-going and emerging needs that we can help to address now.
“The emergency funds you send are vital--we are
deeply grateful. We are able to fuel our car
to bring
life-saving water,
to rescue people displaced by bombing, and much more.”
The Ukrainian women we support work with families who have lost everything. Due to bombardments, out of a 24-hour day they now receive only 1.5 hours of electricity. Large batteries are urgently needed in shelters to power heat, lights and phones. Being able to reach out to loved ones is an integral part of surviving war. The women’s teams, too, must be able to communicate.
Russians are using drones for ‘safari hunting' women and children. New drones can reach 100 km from Russian-occupied areas into Ukraine. Called “waiters" they land like a mine -- Ukrainians call them ‘lightning’. They move quickly, blow up, and the person they target is killed.
The women’s team needs our help to transport people who have been bombed. Before people were sent by train-now trains have stopped. Cars are used and trips can take 10 to 12 hours a day. Using their one remaining car, their driver now requires a drone detector to alert her before she becomes a target.
When they are able, the women try to arrange psychological help for those returning from Russian imprisonment and civilians of all ages who are survivors of rape and other torture by Russian soldiers.
Russia continues to send flower bombs downstream on rivers, which are picked up by children. With the help of the Canadians, the women’s team continues to spread information about the bombs. But no one can leave children unattended and mothers can no longer go to work. Children must be educated in underground spaces.
Together, let's raise more no-strings-attached funds to provide emergency funds to our network of Ukrainian women. WRAP sends 100% of the money raised to our contacts in Ukraine, Maria and Ella of the Democracy Development Centre NGO, empowering them to put funds to immediate use. All contributions, however modest, are deeply appreciated.
“The humanity we can give -- medical help to
children, fixing a broken boiler –
is due to the Canadians
acting as a quick response team for us.”
Please join us in making a difference.
With Love & Solidarity,

P.S. Our partners on the ground tell us that knowing their friends in Canada really care about them, gives them strength along with the ability to better meet the devestating twists and turns of war.
"I love you, embrace you. Without you, we would be vanished."
