Workin' Bridges hasn't added a story.
Bridges Builds Communities!
The Hayden Bridge spans the McKenzie River at Southern Pacific Springfield, Lane County, Oregon, and incorporates two features that were milestones in the history of wrought iron bridge building: the Whipple-Murphy truss and the Phoenix column.
The Hayden Bridge was fabricated by Clarke, Reeves & Company, Phoenixville Bridge Works of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania in 1882. The Bridge is made of wrought-iron, except for the connections and ornamentation, which are cast-iron. Ornamental medallions are placed at the crossing of the diagonal portal bracings.
Earlier this summer the Weyerhaeuser Company gave it to Workin' Bridges, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving bridges, for $1, along with their blessing to transform the forgotten trestles and the surrounding area into a brand new park with river access, benches and bike trails.
Now we need to raise the funds to complete our vision in restoring this beautiful bridge and to create a new park. Funds raised will go to adding new railings, bridge planks and rosettes that decorate the railings and gates. We also want to create a park around the bridge so that the community can enjoy the bridge, have farmers markets, special events and enjoy the walking/bike trails in the surrounding area.
To complete this project, we need to raise $100,000 US.
