Well, rescue is full of surprises.

Yesterday we went to animal control, and (as usual) committed to several animals. A pregnant kitty, a senior kitty, an orphaned kitten, a young cat, and what we thought was a young adult poodle mix. All but the preggo were scheduled to be spayed/neutered/vaccinated and then headed off to foster!

Sadly, this morning the poodle mix had a big puddle of blood in his kennel. He was rushed to the vet, and it was confirmed. He has parvo.

We were given the option to euthanize him, no judgement, but we at Project Precious are not in the business of abandoning animals when things get tough! A volunteer whisked Benjamin off the VREC in Norwalk, where he is now hospitalized and starting treatment for parvo. Not only did we learn just how sick he is (high fever, vomiting, bloody stool), we learned he is just a baby! Benjamin still has baby teeth, and the vet thinks he's probably only about FIVE MONTHS OLD!! Unreal. Poor puppy.

The first 24 hours of care will cost us between $1500-$2000, and we've already put down a deposit of $1100 to start treatment. The expense is worth it, because this is a young poodle type dog who will SURELY find a forever home once he is healthy, and we are hoping he has a long, long life ahead of him!!

The doctor estimates Benjamin will need to be hospitalized for five days, at which point if he does well he can move to home care (he will need a foster or foster-to-adopt home with NO OTHER PETS as parvo is HIGHLY contagious and deadly). We are looking at $3000-$5000, conservatively, to save this guy's life.

Please donate what you are able! Every dollar makes a difference, and we are NOT going to give up on this guy!

We will update as we have more information. Thank you for your support!
