Hello, World!
We started a company because we had an idea to help solve a big problem.
Problem:
Children have the most stake in the future condition of the world, but are rarely allowed to make or veto decisions that will impact it.
Solution:
Take the public opinions of children into public account when making decisions that affect the future condition of the world.
Children's right to be heard is recognized in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Idea:
Build an accessible, resilient, anonymous, and accountable messaging network for sharing public opinions.
Details:
The Project Plan section explains how we're approaching this idea.
The Project Budget section explains what your support is supporting.
Our website (hello.prototopiq.net) is where we're building the prototype.
Team:
- Almera Grace Brionnes - School outreach, Davao City, Philippines
- Nirabhra Das - Software engineering, Davao City, Philippines
- Mike McGraw - Project development, Halifax, Canada
Support:
You can support this project by donating to this campaign, sharing the link, or just saying hello :-)
Thank you!

Asking kids for their collective opinion is a big technical challenge. There are a lot of them, and they're all over the place.
Clearly this project needs a phased approach, so here are the first two we're going to focus on:
Phase 1: Networking R&D
Approx. 8 weeks
Before we ask a network of anonymous children to share their opinions on something, we need the network.
We propose asking the children to help build their own network -- make it into a game and also a learning opportunity.
This phase has three interrelated components: school outreach, network-building game, and a development podcast.
Part 1a: School outreach
We need to better understand how to work with school policy, teacher objectives, international cooperation, and privacy law.
We plan to ask two classrooms — one in Davao City, Philippines and one in Halifax, Canada — to introduce themselves:
- The project team will pick a school in Davao to start the game,
- The Davao school will pick a school in Halifax to send a hello to.
- The Halifax school will decide whether or not to say hello back.
- The schools will fill out questionnaires about how they made these decisions.
No personal student information will be collected - we only want the schools' decisions, and how they arrived at them.
Part 1b: The network-building game
We need to build a simple invitation system so schools can invite other schools to say hello, and join the network.
We are building a fun visualization (a globe) that shows schools connecting to each other, forming their own network.
Here is an early-stage demo, that simulates the network building: interactive globe demo.
Part1c: Development podcast
We need to share our project's progress, the rationale behind our decisions, and what we are learning along the way.
We plan to create a weekly (or bi-weekly) podcast where we talk about all of that (along with learning how to make a podcast).
Here is our (accidental!) pilot episode: Hello World Jam - Part 01 - An Introduction
--- --- ---
Phase 2: Partnership R&D
Approx. 16 weeks
We will need to build partnerships to engage in proper international school networking, research design, business development, and marketing.
Software platform development will continue, and grant research and applications will ramp up.
We'll share more details in as we progress through Phase 1.
Project Budget

- Funding Scope: School outreach, software design and development, hardware, software, hosting.
- Funding Objective: $3,600 CAD
Hourly costs are calculated as fair, living wage for the local developers (Nirabhra & Almera) + operational costs.
