Building on the energy and strength from last year’s successful celebration, the Two-Spirit Pow Wow returns on June 2, 2018. Hosted by Like That @ Sunshine House and the Two-Spirited People of Manitoba, the gathering will create a space that centres Two-Spirit people and honours their resilience.
This year’s theme is “When we dance, our memories are awakened.” The Pow Wow will celebrate the rich history of the Two-Spirit community and shine as a symbol of healing and going forward in a good way. Spearheaded by Kelly Houle and Peetanacoot Nenakawakapo, the Pow Wow is an opportunity to connect with Two-Spirit youth while celebrating their strengths.
In partnership with Pride Winnipeg, the Two-Spirit Pow Wow will happen on the grounds of the Forks National Historic Site. Our celebration will be on June 2nd, 2018. The Grand Entry will happen at 12:30 p.m. with a brief supper and entertainment for dancers and drummers at 5:00 p.m.
The 2017 Two-Spirit Pow Wow was the first contemporary Two-Spirit Pow Wow held in the territories known as Canada, and hosted over 500 visitors of various First Nations, Métis and non-Indigenous communities.
Last year was a great success because of the support of sponsors like you and we are looking forward to another amazing celebration this year. This Pow Wow brings hundreds of people together to dance, sing, and gather and we invite you to be a part of that as well. The organizing committee of this event is completely volunteer run and to host this event according to Pow Wow protocols we need to fundraise $20,000. This unique Pow Wow showcases the gifts of Two-Spirit people to the world and we are calling on the business, non-profit, and public sectors as well as private donors to financially support this incredibly powerful and exciting event.
The Pow Wow committee has been busy securing support from the University of Winnipeg, Red Rising Magazine, and Pride Winnipeg, but we still have work to do to make our vision a reality -- we need you. Please consider a donation to this event and join us in showcasing the fabulous talent and fierce love of our Two-Spirit community.
All donors will receive special recognition at the Pow Wow! Donations received over and above the fundraising requirements of this event will be put toward next year's Two Spirit Pow Wow in 2019.
