Furry Friends Foster and Rescue, Inc. hasn't added a story.
*PLEASE READ! WE NEED YOUR HELP! WE ARE CURRENTLY CLOSED TO NEW INTAKES!*
OUR MEDICAL FUNDS ARE LOW AND OUR VET BILL IS HIGH - OVER $8,000! - WE ARE ASKING THAT EVERYONE WHO READS THIS DONATE WHATEVER YOU CAN! WE CAN'T DO THIS WITHOUT YOU!
When our rescue was founded, in February, 2014, our mission was defined as helping the animals who need us the most – those with medical issues, needing more than the normal vetting that all responsible rescues do for the animals in their care; those in imminent danger of euthanasia; and those needing training/behavior modification.
Starting in 2016, we developed a separate medical fund, allowing us help more dogs in need of medical care.
In 2017 we have helped many dogs needing such care, from one needing emergency surgery for closed pyometra; to numerous dogs needing extensive dental surgery, heartworm treatment; hernia repair; cryptorchid dogs - to name just a few; to Gemma, who has had surgery to remove a mid-grade mast cell tumor and who will go for an oncology consult on October 5th.
We also currently have three hospice dogs in our rescue:
Todd has a severe heart condition as well as a seizure disorder. At 12 years of age, came to us from a local animal control facility - we determined to give him the best life possible for as long as he could maintain good quality of life. We anticipated he'd live only a few months. He has now been with us for over a year and is still enjoying life - playing, cuddling, and having a chance to live out his life with great medical care and a foster who loves him dearly.
Trooper was an owner surrender at 14 years of age - he needed both eyes removed due to end stage glaucoma (he was already totally blind but pressure on the eyes was causing pain), as well as needing numerous skin tags removed (the largest was about the size of half of a man's palm) and needing to lose considerable weight (he was so overweight he had to be carried to the car when his owners surrendered him to us). Trooper is living happily with a wonderful foster mom. As he loses weight he is able to go on short walks, play in the yard and with his doggy foster siblings, and is enjoying life for the first time in a very long time.
Baby Girl came to us in 2015. We rescued her, along with 3 other dogs, from an abandoned apartment in Waterbury. In the middle of winter, the temperature was sub-zero and there was no heat, running water, or electricity. Baby Girl was 14 when we rescued her. She had end-stage glaucoma, but was not a good candidate for surgery. She is totally blind and her eyes are being treated medically. She has been living with a totally dedicated foster mom since then. She also has several doggy siblings who help her as "seeing eye" dogs. With their assistance, she moves around freely in the house and yard and is totally loved and spoiled.
All of this medical care is expensive, and we absolutely cannot fulfill our mission going forward without your help!
Please join us in our mission! Your donations will make ALL the difference to these dogs! Help us to ease suffering, heal their injuries, restore their health – which will, in turn, allow us to find them wonderful forever homes or provide them with loving foster homes if they need to remain in the rescue as hospice dogs.
