Furry Friends Foster and Rescue, Inc. hasn't added a story.
Our rescue was founded in 2014, with a mission to help those dogs who need us the most - those in danger of euthanasia, or those needing substantial medical care or training. We rescue the dogs that would likely be passed over by adopters or other rescues. Because they need us ... and because we care.
We receive calls, emails, and messages on a daily basis, asking for our help. Sadly, we very often must say no - because we can only help as much as our funding allows. We HATE saying no! With your help, we want to be able to say YES more often!
As a non-profit rescue, our funding is primarily from people just like you! We depend totally on donations in order to fulfill our mission.
Currently we have two dogs in hospice care - they will remain with us for the rest of their lives - however long or short those lives may be. We will give them the best medical care possible, consistent with advice from our veterinarian, as long as their quality of life makes that the best decision for them.
One of those dogs is Trooper. He was an owner surrender to our rescue at approximately 14 years old. He was grossly overweight - so obese that he could not walk to the car - we had to carry him. He was totally blind as a result of end stage glaucoma, and fluid build-up in his eyes was making them bulge and causing him pain. He had terrible ear infections. He had multiple skin tags, the largest of which was about the size of the palm of your hand. His mouth was infected - his dental issues were urgent.
Our vet's comprehensive exam showed that Trooper was a good candidate for surgery. So we went to work!
We removed both of his eyes so that they would no longer hurt. We removed the largest skin tags which, thankfully, were benign. We treated his ear infections. And we did major dental surgery which entailed the removal of many teeth.
Then he moved to a wonderful foster home with a foster mom experienced in senior care for dogs. We put him on a diet. As he lost weight, he gained ease of movement (he's still got more weight to lose, but now he can go on short walks and enjoy exploring the backyard!). Living with other dogs, they serve as Trooper's guide dogs and allow him freedom to move around with confidence.
We don't know how long Trooper will have to enjoy his new life, but he sure is enjoying it right now!
In updates to this fundraiser, we will tell the stories of some of the dogs we have helped - those in hospice care, those who have needed extensive medical care in order to allow them to be adopted, and those who have needed training and behavioral help to allow them to become balanced, happy, adoptable dogs.
NONE of this is possible without your support! No matter how much you can donate, it will help!
We want to do more - but we can only do as much as our funding allows.
PLEASE give whatever you can. Because these dogs need us - there are so many waiting!
No individual, and no rescue, can do this alone - it always takes a village. Please join us in our mission today and become part of that village - you will, literally, be saving lives!
