Kelby’s Birthday Wish
Twelve months ago, 6 year old Kelby wanted to do something extraordinary and meaningful for her birthday. Since she loved llamas so much, she dedicated her birthday gifts to The Llama Sanctuary, raising over $1000 for llama rescue in the process.
One year on and Kelby has asked that her birthday gifts be monetary donations to The Llama Sanctuary. Kelby’s desire to help animals inspired people who didn’t even know her to donate over $1000 to The Llama Sanctuary last year and hopes that her 7th birthday will inspire even more people to donate to help the animals in the care of this charity.
Golden heart’s like Kelby’s hold this world together, drawing people together to serve great causes that help billions of people and creatures all around the world.
As it turned out, 2024 was the busiest year on record for The Llama Sanctuary, being called to assist in numerous challenging situations and a total of 29 llamas and alpacas coming into Sanctuary care!
But why llamas? Kelby explains that when she was a baby, she was kissed by a llama and that kiss can still be seen as a small birthmark on her cheek. “The llama is my spirit animal”, explains Kelby; “There are lots of animals who need our help and don’t have enough food or people to care for them, so I want to help llamas and I want to tell everybody in the world that they can help too ! Please join my Fundraiser to help all the llamas and alpacas who have been rescued and live in this really cool place that is called The Llama Sanctuary".
The Llama Sanctuary is the largest rescue organization of its kind in North America. “ Although they are a very long way from my house and I have not been there yet, I have learned about some of the amazing things they do there and I have read the stories about the llamas who need help.” The story that made me really sad is that all the llamas and alpacas in The Llama Sanctuary were forced to leave the beautiful home they had made. It was really difficult to find a home and the llamas had to keep moving to other places .
The Sanctuary has found a new home at The Recline Ridge Ecopark in Tappen, B ritish Columbia and they need our support to create new llama houses & buildings to care for their many sick, injured and elderly llamas.”

About The Llama Sanctuary
The Llama Sanctuary is a registered charity dedicated to the rescue, re-homing, rehabilitation and retirement of llamas and alpacas in need. Operating for almost 20 years, it recently relocated to Recline Ridge Ecopark in Tappen, British Columbia and is the largest camelid rescue organization in North America. Managers David and Lynne currently provide round-the-clock car e for around 70 llamas and alpacas, many of whom are elderly or sick . S ituations can suddenly arise in life that pull the rug from under one’s feet. Illness, accident and family situations often leave animals, without anyone to care for them. Traumatic life changes sometimes leave a person feeling overwhelmed and unable to cope and sadly, animals they once loved are neglected. W ildfires have become more prevalent i n recent years a nd can decimate farms, homesteads and entire communities. The Llama Sanctuary is ready to respond, helping to e vacua te animals and provide temporary care facilities. Services are provided without charge and without judgment.
