Jetsun Drakpa Gyaltsen: Transmitter of Sacred Lineages
We invite you to sponsor the sacred 14 inch statue of Jetsun Drakpa Gyaltsen, the third of the "Five Magnificent Sakya Masters" and a luminary whose profound contributions to Buddhist philosophy and practice remain foundational to the Sakya tradition today.
Born in 1147 as the son of Sachen Kunga Nyingpo, Drakpa Gyaltsen demonstrated remarkable spiritual aptitude from his earliest years. By the age of eleven, he had already received the complete transmission of the Lamdre teachings and other essential lineages. His exceptional diligence led him to master over eighteen collections of tantric instructions under numerous accomplished teachers.
Renowned for his perfect ethical conduct and meditative accomplishment, Drakpa Gyaltsen was particularly celebrated for preserving and elucidating the Hevajra Tantra, a central practice in the Sakya tradition. His comprehensive commentaries on this and other advanced practices ensured their authentic transmission to future generations.
Under his leadership, the Sakya tradition's influence expanded significantly throughout Tibet. Drakpa Gyaltsen's clear expositions of both sutra and tantra attracted disciples from all regions, establishing Sakya as a preeminent center of Buddhist learning and practice. His written works, including the "Clear Differentiation of the Three Vows," remain essential texts for practitioners today.

The Sakya Temple of Peace is currently being built in Kambah, Canberra. This will be a new Tibetan Buddhist temple in the nation's capital and a beacon of peace, kindness and understanding for Australia and the world.
