Furry Friends Foster and Rescue, Inc. hasn't added a story.
On Saturday evening, 9/16/17, Chuckles escaped from his foster family's car and was hit by another car. They rushed him to Central Hospital for Veterinary Medicine in North Haven, CT.
Another car was coming in the opposite direction and either hit him or grazed him, and he rolled underneath it.
At Central, in addition to a large amount of road rash, Chuckles was found to have three serious wounds on his legs. Although he showed no obvious symptoms of internal injuries, and although no bones appeared to be broken, he was kept overnight for monitoring. He was sedated and the wounds clipped and cleaned. He was placed on IV fluids to help blood pressure in case of any unidentified internal injuries.
Very early on Sunday morning, his foster family picked him up and brought him to our vet's office Orange Veterinary Hospital in Orange, CT. Our vet, who had consulted with the doctor at Central late on Saturday night, met them there. X-rays showed no internal injuries, thankfully! Chuckles was anesthetized and his wounds were repaired. He was kept there until this afternoon for observation.
He has already had one laser treatment, which will help the wounds to heal. He will have another one tomorrow, and more if necessary. The healing of the wounds will be monitored by our vet and any necessary follow-up care given.
Everything considered, Chuckles is one lucky dog! This could have been a lot worse for him!
However, the cost to our rescue is large and unexpected.
The cost at Central was $682.81, which was required to be paid on Saturday night.
X-rays, anesthesia, wound repair, laser therapy, and medications from our vet's office will add approximately another $300 if not more to the cost - so we are looking at an emergency expenditure of $1,000 or more.
Although we always try to keep funds available for such emergencies, this expense has left our funds EXTREMELY low, and our vet bill is ALREADY high!
Since the start of the year we've been working to replenish our medical fund which would cover such exigencies - but funds have been slow to come into it.
As a result, we are left now with no choice but to CLOSE the rescue to any new medical intakes until we can AT LEAST cover the cost of Chuckles treatment.
Every single day we receive emails, calls, and messages from people asking for our help with dogs needing medical care - because that is a large part of our mission - it is what we DO as a rescue!
We absolutely hate having to say no - but as a responsible rescue we cannot say yes again without the assurance that we have the necessary funds to care for all of the dogs already in our rescue.
So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give whatever you can! Small donations add up quickly - and if everyone who reads this can give SOMETHING we will quickly be able to start saying YES again!
We cannot do this without you! We need the animal-loving Facebook community to band together once again to help us help more dogs like Chuckles.
Furry Friends Foster and Rescue, Inc. is approved by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) public charity. All donations are tax deductible.
