Techmoja Dance and Theatre Company was created to tell the stories that are too often erased, distorted, or misunderstood — stories rooted in truth, history, and the lived experiences of our community. Through powerful theatre, dance, and community-centered programming, we create work that challenges misinformation, honors legacy, and sparks meaningful dialogue.

But sustaining Black-led arts organizations is not easy.

Like many grassroots companies, Techmoja has faced financial strain, limited rehearsal space, and the constant challenge of producing professional, socially conscious work with minimal resources. Ticket sales alone cannot sustain this mission — and grants are never guaranteed.

This Black History Month, we are not only continuing our artistic work — we are launching the beginning of our Techmoja Youth Component, creating structured opportunities for young people to train, perform, and engage with Black history through the arts. Our youth deserve spaces where they see themselves reflected, valued, and empowered.
