Athens Area Humane Society hasn't added a story.
Support the Athens Area Humane Society's Healing Paws Medical Fund this Giving Tuesday!
This year we have rescued more animals than ever before, approximately 1,100 so far in 2015. We are so proud to be saving more lives and finding so many loving homes for homeless pets. However, there is one thing always holding us back from doing more: financial obligations. We are a no-kill shelter and will always do whatever is necessary to care for an animal we have rescued. This year we have encountered so many cases that have required extra finanical support on our part.
From cruelty cases that we could not turn away to animals in need of surgery, we have faced several instances of medical needs requiring signifcant financial commitment on our part. We will always do everything necessary to help animals, but we cannot do our lifesaving work without the help of our amazing supporters!
This Giving Tuesday we are hoping to raise enough money to ensure we can cover medical issues that animals in our care or animals in need of our help face in the coming year. Sometimes we are unable to rescue an animal who is suffering at animal control because they need surgery or have another costly medical need. Sometimes we rescue animals not knowing that they need extra care. We want to be as responsible as possible with the monetary support we are given by our wonderful supporters. Please help us care for animals in desperate need of medical attention so they can have a second chance.
Many of you will remember Squishy. We rescued Squishy, along with her mom and siblings, from animal control this summer. They were part of a cruelty case and Squishy was in need of immediate medical attention. One of her brothers had already passed away from the conditions these pups were found in by animal control. We could not turn our backs so despite knowing that Squishy was going to be an extra financial strain, we rushed her back to Athens as fast as possible. Just a few days later, Squishy lost her right paw. Several surgeries followed for Squishy, but we stuck with her the entire time and now she is healthy, happy, and settled in a loving home.
Mayflower is our most recent rescue with outstanding medical needs. She was found on the side of the road with a broken leg. The person who found this sweet pup brought her to South Athens Animal Clinic for help because they did not know what to do. South Athens called us in for help and we couldn't turn our backs on this sweet pup. Mayflower and Squishy are some of the lucky ones, but there are so many more animals who are not this lucky and need our help. This is why we need your help this holiday season!
PLEASE consider donating to our #GivingTuesday campaign to help the animals who wouldn't have a chance without your generosity!

Below is Squishy after she lost her paw. There are many more
cases like Squishy's and Mayflower's. We have included some
more photos of animals who were in need of extra medical care at
AAHS this year.
