Vancouver Island Dogs Rescue Society hasn't added a story.
We are Vancouver Island Dogs Rescue Society, a not-for-profit that focusses on rescuing and rehabilitating Canadian dogs in need. We are raising $4,000 for Bree's second knee surgery. Her first knee surgery, on December 15, is being covered by our summer fundraising savings. We are in need of donations to complete her second surgery in the early new year.
Bree is a darling 2 year old ‘Canadian Special’ in urgent need of
double leg surgery for torn ligaments on both her back legs. This girl
is an outdoor loving, high energy love bug. Sitting still while she
heals will be a challenge for Bree but we've assured her that it's
worth it and that she is worth it too. Bree is booked in for her first
surgery on Dec 15. Unfortunately, these surgeries are expensive even
with the great partnerships we have with our local vets. At this time,
we can only afford to fix one of Bree's legs at a cost of $4,000. We
are fundraising and asking for donations for the remaining $4,000
surgery for her other leg. The surgeries are staggered to allow for
recovery on each giving us some time to fundraise for the second surgery.
There are always those that think this is a ridiculous cost to
pay for one dog and some ask how many other dogs could be saved with
that money. While these are legitimate questions, they are not easily
answered but we’ll try. Firstly, it IS a lot to pay for 'just' one
dog, but it is never the dog’s fault that it does not have an owner to
cover these costs, and our mission is to step in as a responsible
owner for needy dogs. Secondly, we wouldn't be going out tomorrow and
taking in 10 dogs if we didn't have Bree. We don’t cherry pick
healthy, less costly dogs over others to rescue, we help where we are
needed. And lastly, Bree is young and our vet gave her an excellent
prognosis. As any reputable rescue does, we take our vets advice
seriously and never put profit over a dogs needs. Quality of life is
the biggest factor in medical decisions and we do make those hard
decisions when needed. In Bree's case, her quality of life will be
wonderful when she has recovered, and we are here to get her to that goal.
We recently did a double leg surgery and major dental on
another little dog that is now adopted that cost around $4,000 (seems
to be our lucky number!) This, among a few other dogs in care, rapidly
depleted our summer fundraising savings leaving us short the amount to
fully help Bree. Bree is now on medication to manage her pain while
she waits for her surgeries. You can see her pain in how she sits
crooked. After her surgeries and once both legs are completely healed
she will be assessed and adopted out to a loving family.
We are transparent with our funds and have included the estimate to show the total. The estimate is for ONE leg only, so the full total is between $7500.00 - $8000.00. We are only looking to raise half. We post Fundrazrs because they are an easy way for people to donate and share Bree’s story but Fundrazr takes a small percentage of what is donated. Because of this and our aim for transparency, there are other ways to donate.
