Version française plus bas ⬇️

On April 3, 2026, we are producing SIKU, a collaborative Electronic Music and Art Exchange in Iqaluit, Nunavut.

This event will feature a creative partnership between Montreal-based electronic music producer and Saisons Musique label owner, Kora, and Inuk throat-singer Cynthia Pitsiulak in a genre-bending collaboration rooted in house music and the co-creation of a new sound grounded in organic elements drawn from land, heart, and spirit.

Iqaluit-based artists Deejay Lambo and Mister will also perform, with the intention of highlighting and supporting additional local Inuit artists wherever possible.

Beyond producing a single performance, this exchange aims to strengthen long-term relationship-building and creative infrastructure by also leaving professional DJ equipment in Iqaluit for ongoing shared community access and skill development.

🎧 A Two-Phase Initiative

Phase 1 — Community Exchange Event ($10,000)
Produce the SIKU Electronic Music and Art Exchange in Iqaluit, featuring Inuit artists in a collaborative performance with Montreal-based producer, Kora.

Phase 2 — DJ Equipment That Stays ($15,000)
Purchase an industry-standard CDJ setup that will remain in Iqaluit to support ongoing creative exploration, skill development, and future programming.

Why This Matters

Access to professional creative tools, skills-based training, and pathways into the larger music industry is uneven — particularly in remote northern communities.

Electronic music offers a powerful entry point into sound design, technology, collaboration, self-expression and performance. When paired with long-term access to equipment, it can open tangible creative and arts-based career pathways.

For many of us, the dance floor has been more than entertainment — it has been a space of belonging, emotional release, and community resilience. While music alone cannot solve complex structural and societal challenges, access to safe, community-rooted creative spaces can support connection, expression, and shared strength.

By pairing exchange-based programming with lasting access to tools, this initiative supports:

  • Skill-building over spectacle

  • Mutual, exchange-based learning over extraction

  • Relationship-building and continuity over one-time engagement

If you have ever found freedom and connection on a dance floor, this is an opportunity to help extend that access to northern communities in a meaningful and lasting way.

This project is grounded in co-creation, connection, and long-term presence — not performance alone.

Phase 1: Community Event & Co-Creation

Funding Goal: $10,000

Phase 1 supports the collaborative production of the SIKU Electronic Music and Art Exchange in Iqaluit.

Funds will cover:

  • Travel for visiting Inuk musician and Inuk videographer from Ottawa to Iqaluit (~$2,000)

  • Venue rental at the Franco Centre, sound, technical and visual production (~$2,000)

  • Studio time for music collaboration/production cost between Kora and Cynthia (~$500)
  • Fair compensation for Inuit musicians, DJs and videographer (~$2,500)

  • Fair compensation for Inuit artists and art materials (~$2,000)

  • Event expenses (i.e. décor, food, logistics, and security) (~$1,000)

Funding support allows us to keep ticket prices accessible. Without support, tickets would need to be approximately $120 to cover costs.

Visiting artist Kora, Saisons Musique, and non-Inuit organizing team will not collect any fees or profit from this event.

Phase 2: DJ Equipment That Stays

Funding Goal: $15,000

Phase 2 funds the purchase of an industry-standard DJ setup (two CDJs + mixer) that will be transported to Iqaluit and remain in the community with a local partner organization to ensure it is accessible for community-led use.

This equipment will support:

  • Ongoing DJ skills development

  • Youth experimentation and creative exploration and expression

  • Long-term access to professional-grade tools

  • Future programming, training workshops, and community-led events

How Funds Will Be Used

If Phase 1 is fully funded, additional contributions will roll directly into Phase 2.

If both phases are exceeded, surplus funds will be donated to the Isaksimagit Inuusirmi Katujjiqatigiit Embrace Life Council to support mental health and suicide prevention initiatives in Nunavut.

Transparency & Accountability

When you contribute, you will receive updates on the progress and impact of this initiative. We are committed to transparency and will share updates at key milestones:

  • When Phase 1 is fully funded

  • When Phase 2 is fully funded

  • When the DJ equipment is purchased

  • When the DJ equipment arrives in Iqaluit

  • Post-event reflections and documentation

  • Confirmation of any surplus funds donated

SIKU Team

---------------------------------
