We are Team Bananá, a team of 2nd & 3rd graders coming together from Berkeley and Albany to play softball together. Some of us are brand new to the sport, and some have a season or two under our belts, but we are all improving our skills, working as a team and having fun!
We've got fields and basic equipment covered by our registration fees, but we rely on fundraising to have all the other things we need to learn and improve our softball game. Can you help us out with training for our volunteer coaches to help us get better, and umpires to make sure our games are fair? We'd really appreciate it!

Who is ABGSL?
For over 40 years, the Albany Berkeley Girls Softball League (ABGSL) has been providing a positive athletic experience for girls and gender-expansive youth in the East Bay, with recreational and competitive fast-pitch softball programs for players in grades K - 9. As a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) non-profit, our guiding principles are simple:
- Active participation for all
- Skill development
- Family involvement
This year we are serving nearly 270 players, many of whom are having their first experience with a sport, and all of whom are developing their softball skills, teamwork, and positive attitude through wins and losses.
Why do we fundraise?
You might be thinking: isn't everything covered by registration fees and all the volunteers that help run ABGSL? Unfortunately, no. Our registration fees just about cover field rentals and keeping our equipment and fields in safe, playable condition. Donations pay for everything else, including coach training & safety certifications, umpires, skill clinics, uniforms, and more. Fundraising also allows us to offer need-based player scholarships so no one is turned away for lack of funds.
Why should YOU help?
Making a donation means much more than fields, coaches, and equipment: it means keeping softball accessible and affordable to all the girls and gender-expansive youth in our community... for 40 more years and then some! (Plus, it doesn't hurt that ABGSL is a non-profit and your donation is tax deductible.)
