Gamers Outreach Foundation hasn't added a story.
Optic Gaming's very own Michael "Flamesword" Chaves is raising money to build a portable video game kiosk for a children's hospital in Chicago.
For the past year and 3 months, professional Halo player and Optic Gaming performance coach, Flamesword, has been growing and maintaining one of the most impeccable beards in all of eSports. Having adopted a personality of its own, “The Optic Beard” has become a notorious component of Flamesword’s persona.
But with 2015 on the horizon, a new year means new beginnings. Flamesword has decided to start the year with a clean slate, and on December 29th, will be shaving the Optic Beard.
In honor of the legacy the Optic Beard will surely leave behind, Flamesword is hosting a 24 hour gaming marathon to raise money and awareness for Gamers Outreach Foundation. Gamers Outreach Foundation is a charity organization within the video game industry that constructs portable video game kiosks for children in hospitals. Dubbed “GO Karts,” these medical kiosks are used by hospital staff to provide video games and entertainment to children without access to activities outside their rooms.
During the broadcast, Flamesword will be raising $4,000 to construct a GO Kart for a Chicago-based children's hospital. Viewers will be able to assist Flamesword in his quest by joining the stream, participating in giveaways, and donating to the cause.
Gamers Outreach will be on-site during the occasion, helping Flamesword coordinate giveaways and gaming sessions with viewers. In the event more than $4,000 is raised, funds will be used to purchase additional games and peripherals to accompany the cart. 100% of all donated funds will be used for the purchase of games or, if possible, the construction of additional carts. Gamers Outreach Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and donations are tax deductible.
Whether you’re on team #ShaveTheBeard or #SaveTheBeard, we invite you to join us for Optic Beard’s final hoo-rah.
The streamathon will begin at 12 PM Central on Monday, December 29th and will be streamed at optic.tv/flamesword. Donations can be made using the link above.
We’ll see you on stream!
