Temple Prayer Wheels: Embodiments of Enlightened Speech
We invite you to sponsor one or all of the 20 prayer wheels that will grace the exterior walls of the Sakya Temple of Peace. These devotional items each measure 18 inches high and 12 inches wide, and will be installed along two sides of the temple building.
Each prayer wheel contains countless mantras—including the Om Mani Padme Hum mantra—written on tightly rolled paper. When set in motion through turning, these wheels activate the blessings of these sacred syllables, sending countless prayers into the world with each revolution.
According to tradition, spinning a prayer wheel generates the same merit as orally reciting the mantras contained within it. This makes these wheels particularly significant for practitioners of all levels—from first-time visitors to dedicated meditators—as they circumambulate the temple grounds. The simple act of mindfully turning these wheels while walking clockwise around sacred structures creates a powerful connection to Buddhist practice.
These prayer wheels will be positioned to allow visitors to engage in this meaningful practice while circumambulating both the temple and adjacent stupa. You will also find this practice done by devotees in Tibetan temples in Tibet, India and Nepal.

The Sakya Temple of Peace is currently being built in Kambah, Canberra. This will be a new Tibetan Buddhist temple in the nation's capital and a beacon of peace, kindness and understanding for Australia and the world.
We are so close to realising this dream, but we need your help!
To complete the project on time in only six months by September 2025, we need to raise $500,000 by 31 May 2025.
