Change it Forward Foundation Tanzania hasn't added a story.

In your country, a school without computers is probably like a refrigerator without food. Our school wants so badly to provide our students this educational nourishment.

Magulilwa Area Secondary School was founded by native Tanzanian, Evaristo Sanga. Evaristo was a rare fortunate case, a child who grew up in poverty in this East African nation but offered the chance to go to college in the U.S. He now lives in Minneapolis with his wife and their two sons where he works as a software engineer.

Soon after establishing himself in America, Evaristo wanted to give back to his country in need. So with the help of American friends, he raised enough money to break ground on a school in his hometown, Magulilwa--built to raise the bar of education for all Tanzania.

In 2006, Magulilwa Area Secondary School opened its doors to its first class of 79 students. And since then, has attracted a body of bright, hopeful, and industrious students from all over the country, coming to pursue their passions. (Watch the video to see some of Magulilwa's 241 students.)

Without computers, though, these aspiring doctors, engineers, attorneys, educators, artists, scientists, and future leaders of Tanzania are without the connectivity and information which the Internet provides. As important, without basic computer skills such as emailing, navigating the Internet, or even just typing, higher education and eventual employment will be challenging.

This is why we're raising money.

We're planning to buy 10 laptop computers and transport them along with English/computers teacher, Brandon Ferdig, to Magulilwa. Brandon will arrive in January 2014 with the computers when the lab (as explained in the video) is completed. He will assist in computer setup, classes, and English tutoring. The estimated costs of the computers, transportation, desks, and wiring is $5,320. Adding in Paypal and Fundrazr charges takes the total to $5,719. (Edit: We reset our goal to $5,200. See Update 9-20-13)

The construction for the lab is being funded directly through Change it Forward Tanzania. Any money raised over our goal here will go to help build the lab.

Your donation helps provide these students an incredible opportunity to expand the amount of information and technological preparedness they have when pursuing opportunities after secondary school.

More than that warm tingly feeling in your stomach for supporting such an important cause, notice the perks along the right for participating in this project. From staying in touch with the students over the Internet to getting to greet them in person by coming to Tanzania, there's a perk for everyone. (Please send questions about the project or perks to Evaristo Sanga at Evaristo@changeitforwardtanzania.org.)

We look forward to rewarding your generosity. Most of all, we look forward to providing our students with the tools they need to be the best they can be.

Thank you.

Visit the school and a Safari (10 days)
$5,000 USD

Up your involvement by coming to Africa! Many tourists come for the safaris, but few have the chance to experience something as culturally intimate as visiting a rural school. Come see how your donation was used. We'd love to show you! A local school representative will pick you up at Julius Nyerere International Airport in the capital, Dar es Salaam. They will escort you to Magulilwa and give you a tour of the village and school. Get to know our students, and they can thank you in person. We'll provide meals and housing. After two days in the village, you'll get that safari when we head to Ruaha national park--all expenses paid. This is a unique opportunity to not just visit Africa, but to get to know this land via our Swahili-speaking guide and by accessing the local culture of Tanzanians. Redeem this perk by 2018. Airfare not included. Couples can come for $7500. For more information, please email Evaristo Sanga at Evaristo@changeitforwardtanzania.org.

  2. What is your solution?
Describe your plan to address the problem and highlight what makes your approach unique or effective.
  3. How will the funds be used?
Outline how the money will be allocated to specific programs, resources or services.
  4. How will contributions make a tangible difference?
Explain the benefits and positive changes resulting from your project being funded. If appropriate, also explain how the lives of beneficiaries will be impacted.
