Ride To Give hasn't added a story.
As a parent, you only want the best for you child. This is even more true for parents of a special needs and/or medically fragile child. They want their child to have the best therapeutic services available as well as having a chance at as typical a life as possible. For many special needs families, both of these can be achieved in the their local public school system.
Jefferson, Georgia is one of those special school districts where the public schools offer amazing services for a wide range of children with differing needs. The teachers in each of the local schools are extraordinarily dedicated, going above and beyond daily for their students.
Jefferson Middle School special education teacher Beth McGeady is of those teachers who gives 110%. The parents of her students feel blessed to have her as their teacher and can’t say enough about how amazing she is to each and every child she teaches. Her classroom is similar to the one Tripp Halstead attended and Beth will teach some of Tripp's peers in the years ahead. The Halstead’s felt Tripp received amazing love and care when he was a student in the Jefferson school system.
When we heard Beth’s Severe and Profound Special Education classroom refrigerator was on its last leg we knew we needed to help. Many of her students have feeding and medication needs that require refrigeration. Earlier this week, Beth went to set up her classroom for the start of the 2019-2020 school year and realized her current refrigerator would not last much longer. There is no time to request a new unit so she was prepared to spend her own funds to provide for her students. After seeing a post seeking a second hand unit, Ride to Give decided to hold a special Flash Ironman Fundraiser to provide her students with a new refrigerator. Any funds raised beyond the price of the fridge will be donated to Beth's class for needs through the year.
Team Ride to Give team member Leigh Roberts Duquette is participating in IRONMAN 70.3 Santa Rosa on Saturday July 27th. Leigh is proud to race for Ride to Give and excited to know that her efforts will have a positive impact on the special needs students at Jefferson Middle School.
