To the Edge of the Sky is a free unofficial visual novel game  by indie developer Aeon Dream Studios, known for their Mystic Destinies games. 

This is the relaunch campaign to support the guarantee start-up of regular releases to the app, rather than the full cost of development for a full game. 

Inspired by the members of [REDACTED], and the themes presented in their music, the first demo was released in March 2017. Played around the world, the first demo, PHASe 1 was met with both high praise and high demand for a full game. Although the game is inspired by the band, the universe and plots are completely original and can be enjoyed by anyone looking for a great visual novel experience. We are not affiliated with [REDACTED] or [REDACTED] in any way.  

After much deliberation, Aeon Dream decided to go further with To the Edge of the Sky as a FREE game, giving the art style a revamp in the process. Even though TTEOTS is being developed as a fan-made game, Aeon Dream and those who work with them are still developers who need to cover costs. That’s where YOU come in! 

Enter the year 2077 and become Seven, the newest addition to Phantom Alpha, a secret team who operates under the enigmatic government organization known as P.H.A.N.T.A.S.M. After joining, you find yourself befriending the other rookie on the team, an incredibly skilled youth known as Zero. As you meet the other members, you quickly learn that while vastly talented, each of them is clearly much more than meets the eye.

Regardless of your differences, you quickly learn what Phantom Alpha can do. But together, you soon discover that on the other side of the radiant world of light, lies an equally dark world of shadow. Can you brave these worlds and trust the men by your side?

To the Edge of the Sky takes place in a science fiction setting, specifically invoking the aesthetic and themes of the post-cyberpunk genre. If the first stretch goal is reached, we would like to expand the game for double the length! The game itself was planned to have two different narrative paths to appeal to the wide fanbase, but has been set aside for now due to the lower goal. Right now, only Seven's path will be available to begin playing.

• There will be a free version of the game for everyone to enjoy.   
• A premium membership through an exclusive app is being planned. We’re still working out the specifics, but it may have things like additional CGs, more customization, and extra scenes but won’t affect the main storyline.
• The musical direction is undecided currently, as it depends on funding, but we promise you high quality, original tracks.  
• We're planning to release an update every 1-2 months. The precise way we’re doing this is still being decided. 
• We'd love to continue with fan translations, but a full game is a much bigger project than a demo. With the reduced budget, we will likely only support Korean and Portuguese for now, coming after the English releases.

• A CONCEPT THAT EVOLVED 

As fans ourselves, we felt that the topics and themes [REDACTED] discusses in their music could be easily expanded to something more. However, we are full-time developers and weren’t sure if the idea was one people would be interested in, so we decided to test the waters with a demo before trying to invest resources into a game. In March when we visited the concerts and talked to over a thousand [REDACTED], seeing how excited they were, we thought we might be on to something. As we got to see and hear from thousands more fans over the next few months, the game’s meaning evolved into something more…

This is our gift to our fellow [REDACTED]. [REDACTED] support [REDACTED] tirelessly through all the ups and downs. [REDACTED] does the same for their fans as well, but as we all know, they’re only human and have their limits. We hoped that we could possibly help comfort fellow fans as well - our way of saying thank you to [REDACTED] for their support and thank you to [REDACTED] for trying to do the same for us all. 

• FOR [REDACTED]

We are treating To the Edge of the Sky with the utmost respect. The characters are inspired by the [REDACTED], but the characters have their own backstories and personalities resulting from their entirely different lives in the world we’re creating. Still, we are taking into consideration the members known preferences, and treating all themes and concepts seriously.

• PAYING TRIBUTE TO [REDACTED]

In this way, To the Edge of the Sky has become a game that will be developed by [REDACTED] and supported by [REDACTED] like you. We will do our best to pay homage to the members and to all their hard work. K-pop is a fast moving industry, but we hope a unique game like TTEOTS can stand through time to pay homage to [REDACTED] for everything they’ve done - as seen through our eyes as fans and made possible by their [REDACTED] who donate or support us on in whatever way they can. 

• A STORY THAT TACKLES SOCIAL ISSUES

We’ve always tackled unusual subjects in our work. This time, we want to use our bigger platform to tackle important social issues such as climate change, prejudice, and philosophical issues such as the human condition -all within the context of our world and storyline. As creators, we feel it is our responsibility to help change things too. So we want to make you think. 

We want TTEOTS to be one game you come away from with a new perspective on things - but while having enjoyed the experience all the while.

To the Edge of the Sky will have a more unusual release schedule, so that we can get content out to fans as soon as it’s done. Additionally, since the game budget has been reduced, this only includes the guaranteed start-up of the story releases so that we can continue to support it ourselves.

Length of time between releases 6-8 weeks between major updates. If you have the game on your mobile device, you’ll need to keep it to receive the updates or follow our social media to hear about releases.  

• TTEOTS PHASE 3  

The final portion of the prologue is planned for January.

• FIRST FULL GAME STORY RELEASE  

The first regular update is currently planned for Early Spring 2018.  

• FULL DEVELOPMENT CYCLE  

This budget allows for 3-4 months of releases, at which point we'll hoping the app will sustain itself through premium content and merchandise. This kind of schedule allows for story updates indefinitely or until we wish to conclude the story properly.

This isn’t Aeon Dream Studios’ first game, but to take on the massive task of full-time game development for 3-4 months on this game, we need to be able to pay those we work with, as well as afford resources for the high-quality experience we’re going for. We want to bring everything we’ve got to this game and we want as many people to play it for free as possible - but we need to eat too! As indies we have no publisher to rely on, so that’s where YOU come in! We can’t afford to do it without your support!

Risks and challenges

We have prior commitments to one past project to release this year This takes our top priority to finish before starting To the Edge of the Sky, so that we can focus on the game fully.

Our development schedule reflects this, and it's why we are not beginning full game releases until 2018.

Aside from the core team, we also work with contractors which can change at any time due to circumstances beyond our control. However, we promise to commit every resource to finding replacements, should this occur. Our core team staying the same means that the art and writing will stay consistent regardless of outside changes.

Additional languages would also prove to be a big challenge for us as a small team to manage multiple releases, which is why we're looking for outside help with localization.
