Help us rebuild the facilities of the Escobilla Ecotourism Center, managed by the project of volunteer community guardians of sea turtles, after Hurricane Agatha.
With the passage of Hurricane Agatha, the Escobilla Ecotourism Center suffered severe damage to its infrastructure, mainly in the sea turtle nest protection pens, which is the main conservation mission of the center.
Ayúdanos a reconstruir las instalaciones del Centro Ecoturístico Escobilla, administrado por el proyecto de guardianes voluntarios comunitarios de las tortugas marinas.
Con el paso del huracán Agatha, el Centro Ecoturístico Escobilla tuvo fuertes daños en su infraestructura, principalmente en los corrales de protección de nidos de tortugas marinas, que es la principal misión de conservación del centro.
Also the facilities where ecotourism services are provided, which is the main source of financing for the sea turtle protection program were damaged, including ceilings, windows and doors of rooms.
También las instalaciones donde se brindan servicios ecoturísticos, que es la principal fuente de financiamiento del programa de protección de tortugas marinas, fueron dañados, los techos, ventanas y puertas de habitaciones.
On this beach there is a phenomenon called the arrival. This is when thousands of turtles come out in a massive and synchronized way to lay their eggs. This makes it the most important beach in the world for the number of nestings. No beach has registered more nestings historically than Escobilla!!
The project that we invite you to support is a cooperative of
people from the community of Zapotec descendants from the south, who
have been organized since 1997 to take care of sea turtles that were
previously hunted for their eggs, meat or skin and that are now
protected by these people who legally coordinate with the Mexican
government and together have had excellent results for the
conservation of three species of sea turtles!
En esta playa se presenta un fenómeno llamado arribada. Esto es cuando miles de tortugas salen de forma masiva y sincronizada a poner sus huevos. Esto la hace la playa más importante en todo el mundo por el número de anidaciones, ninguna playa, ha registrado más anidaciones históricamente que Escobilla!
El proyecto que te invitamos a apoyar, es una cooperativa de personas de la comunidad descendientes zapotecos del sur, que se han organizado desde 1997 para cuidar de las tortugas marinas que antes eran cazadas por sus huevos, carne o piel y que ahora son protegidas por estas personas que se coordinan legalmente con el gobierno mexicano y juntos han tenido excelentes resultados para la conservación de tres especies de tortugas marinas!
With your support, we will be able to rebuild the main functions of the community project: we will continue with the protection of sea turtle nests and the Center's ecotourism services will be rehabilitated.
What we will do:

Rebuild the protection pens for 3 species of sea turtles, this will serve to protect approximately 1,600 nests per year, which means more than 120,000 baby turtles hatching per year!

Repair the ceilings, doors, windows of the rooms, restaurant and conference room

Repair and information and environmental information center for our visitors.

Give emotional support to the community group that manages the center and that does the voluntary work of taking care of the sea turtle nests.
Con su apoyo, podremos reconstruir las principales funciones del proyecto comunitario: seguiremos con la protección de los nidos de tortugas marinas y se rehabilitaran los servicios ecoturísticos del Centro.
Que haremos:
- Reconstruir los corrales de protección de 3 especies de tortugas marinas, esto servirá para proteger aproximadamente 1,600 nidos al año, lo que significa más de 120,000 bebés tortugas naciendo al año!
- Rehabilitar los techos, puertas, ventanas de las habitaciones, restaurante y salón de conferencias
- Reparar un centro de información y educación ambiental para nuestros visitantes
- Apoyar anímicamente al grupo comunitario que administra el centro y que hacen el trabajo voluntario de cuidar los nidos de tortugas marinas
