TO PASS ON is about understanding that grief and death are just a natural part of life’s cycle. The stories we pass on mean we are never truly gone.
Hey friends!
Jedi is leaving Canada at the end of December! :( This is his goodbye
gift!
Let's give him one last hurrah and raise the funds to shoot
this short film before he goes!
LOGLINE:
After being frozen in the portrait world for two decades, Margaret’s soul finally reunites with her husband, Harry, who has recently passed away. They are both ready to go to the afterlife together. But Margaret has to let go of her worry for her son, Flynn, who is still grieving his father.
A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR:
One month before I came to Canada from Thailand, my grandma passed away. It was the first time in my life losing someone I was close to.
When I received the news, the first thing I did was call my mother. She told me that she was okay because she knew this day would eventually come. She cried a lot; but surprisingly, she smiled more. I asked her why and she told me, “I want her to look down and see her daughter smiling”.
As Buddhists, we were always taught to let go and accept change. A funeral is not just a farewell but also a time to remember; it’s a time we come together to recall good memories that we shared with that person, and to pass on their wisdom. This inspired me to write “To Pass On”. Your life does not end after you pass away, your story keeps going even when you are long gone. As an artist, I wanted to capture that and translate it into an emotional and beautiful short story.
~ Sivakorn “Jedi” Ratanapinyowong
SYNOPSIS:
After his father’s funeral, Flynn mourns over his father’s portrait. His wife, Cordia, suggests he hang it on the wall next to the portrait of his mother, who died many years before.
Inside the portrait, Flynn’s deceased mother, Margaret, finally reunites with her husband, Harry. Both souls are happy to see each other again. Harry invites Margaret to take a journey to the afterlife with him. But seeing her son still grieving his father, Margaret refuses.
Upon watching Flynn interact with his wife and daughter, Margaret realizes that Flynn has now grown up and has a family of his own who will support him. Relieved, she accepts that Flynn will be okay, and it is time to move on.
