• Our mission:
  

  The Wild Umbrella originated in Dublin, in the house where Oscar Wilde was born. Our team met as postgraduate creative writing classmates mastering our respective crafts; since then, we have been united in the goal of discovering, promoting, and publishing the best and most interesting works of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction we can find in Ireland and beyond. It's free to submit to us, and we also aim to pay our contributors. Your donation will help us maintain both goals.

• Is the Umbrella a digital-only publication?

  We'll start by publishing work digitally – on our website and our social media – with our goal being to evolve to be a print and digital outlet in 2024. It will be free to submit writing to us – though we'll ask for a small donation when writers submit work – and we also aim to pay our contributors from the outset. As a not-for-profit outlet, 100% of every donation goes into that writer fund, from which we'll pay our contributors.

• Our commitment to our contributing writers:

  There are a lot of great new and established journals in Ireland – we love Tolka, Ropes, the Madrigal, and plenty of others! – and we'll add to that already-abundant ecosystem. We know we're only as good as our contributors, so we'll keep our writers at the forefront. During the acceptance process, we’ll lend a hand to elevate writers' work through suggested edits and feedback, but we leave the final decisions to the creator. We will energetically promote their work on our social media after publication. Our goal is to pay our contributors from the start and to always offer free submissions.

• Where are you located?

  Our headquarters is in Dublin, though our staff is scattered throughout Ireland and elsewhere.

• What kind of writing are you looking for?

  We are a journal of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry, seeking out great writing from Ireland and the rest of the world. Your donations help us meet those ambitions.
