From teaching in universities to offering private care in people's homes, we have spent the last twelve years committed to sharing health education with those seeking it, whether they could "afford" it or not. We have funded private scholarships to immersive events, offered free naturopathic consultations, and provided wellness support on a sliding scale and donation basis for over a decade. We now find ourselves with the incredible opportunity to create a permanent home base for our mission. The Roots Sanctuary is a 50 acre nature preserve with hiking trails, cozy cabins, scenic overlooks, and campsites. Located on Whitwell Mountain in Tennessee, The Roots overlooks the Pocket Wilderness and is situated just around the bend from Chimneys State Natural Area. With its towering old growth trees, breathtaking scenery, and current facilities, the sanctuary is the perfect home for our wellness and educational services.
We plan to build indoor and outdoor classrooms, bath house facilities, and eventually a fully-accessible not-for-profit ADA cabin. All aspects of The Roots have been designed to support wellbeing in our visitors as well as the nature around us. We follow sustainable building and forestry practices and use architectural styles known to promote feelings of peace and wellbeing. We are committed to proving you can take care of yourself while also taking care of the planet.
The Roots Sanctuary will serve as a learning place for caretakers, providers, and individuals carrying the burden of chronic illness. Experts from around the world are invited to host conferences and residencies at the sanctuary and our in-house team will provide private mentorships and supportive getaways to those who need them. Nutritional support, meal plans, and extracurricular activities will be available to guests during their stay.
Proceeds from the campaign go directly towards furthering our mission through the construction of facilities at The Roots Sanctuary. Our team will continue to provide services through our community scholarship fund independently from this campaign. What does the money go towards?

Amenities that are currently available at The Roots Sanctuary are hiking trails, a scenic overlook with a viewing deck, and onsite nutritional and educational services. An onsite market, a library, bolted sport climbing routes, and a swimming hole will become available in the future.
Do you have personal experience in what you are selling?
Yes! Our team is rich in personal experience when it comes to wellness care, overcoming health obstacles, and outdoor adventures. Founder Jewel Carey has a personal history in overcoming Lyme disease after years of suffering in hospital beds and holds national recognition as a traditional naturopath, therapeutic movement specialist, holistic health practitioner, and health educator with over 2,000 hours of teaching experience. Founder Tim Carey has a history of long distance backpacking through rugged terrain, rock climbing instruction, forestry work, high end private catering, and custom woodworking. All members of our team are currently expanding upon their knowledge and will continue to acquire additional certifications as well as participate in continuing education offerings.
