Alchemy Art Center hasn't added a story.
We invite you to participate in Alchemy Art Center's third annual online fundraiser!
Did you know that art changes lives? For years, studies have shown that creative activities and opportunities benefit adults and kids in cognitive ability and problem-solving, social skills, and mental health. As we move into a digital world, physical creativity can connect us more deeply with the world around and within us, and offer insights, focus, and new ways of seeing.
Opportunities for art are limited in our rural community. Alchemy works to ensure that islanders have relevant and enriching access to the arts, despite our geographic isolation. Islanders deserve exposure to engaging and challenging concepts and techniques, diverse materials, and professional instruction.
That's where you come in. We cannot offer this alone. More than a third of our financial resources to offer free and affordable programming and facilities come from people like you. We need your help to offer arts access to as large of a community as possible.
This Spring, we are raising $21,500 to support the programs that put our community first!
Our board of directors, and a select group of our staff and supporters, are generously offering original art, handmade items, and unique experiences to our spring online auction! Alchemy needs your help to close the gap and fund our Artists in Community Program, as well as other goals for this year! You can donate directly to these needs, or you can support them by purchasing one of our amazing items or experiences. These items are only available during this fundraiser!
Have you benefitted from Alchemy Art Center? Has a loved one? Have you thought about donating? We are speaking to you. Please show up for us, and help us further our mission.
Perks
Goal: $5,000
Our Artists in Community program is the heartline of our connection with island families, youth, and elders. Each summer we host 12 Artists in residence who offer their time and artistic skills to our community. From workshops on Stained Glass to Sewing, Indigo Dye to ceramics, you will find us making art accessible to everyone on San Juan Island. We set up in 9 different locations on the island, for more than 70 independent events and in partnership with many other island organizations. This year we have branched out further- working with the Library, and the Village at the Harbor to bring art to even more islanders! This program is funded by grants and donations. We currently have a $5000 gap in funding for this summer. We are raising money in order to provide these incredible opportunities to you.
Goal: $2,000
Our youth mentorships offer island middle schoolers with even more in depth access to learning. This program takes place in our studio, and creates opportunities for skill building and shared learning. The object of our mentorship program is to facilitate relationships between young people and our Artists in Residence and local professional artists. Small groups of island youth learn things like photography, wheel throwing and even theater while working with our adult artists. This program has proven to be truly transformative in the lives of island kids, who otherwise don't have access to this specialized knowledge. We offer mentorships throughout the year, usually running one or two month long sessions at a time. This spring we are raising money to pay for materials and the time of the adult artists involved in the program, as well as the resources needed to end the experiences in a wonderful art show event.
Goal: $7720
Our kilns have been working overtime, literally. They were both donated to us in our first year and they have championed Alchemy's causes these last 5 years. The time we spend troubleshooting kilns as they need repairs has gone from occasionally, to monthly, to weekly, and we are realizing that the time has come to replace them! After communicating with local ceramics distributer, Georgie's, we have been offered a 20% discount on two brand new kilns!
Goal: $6200
Alchemy's dome provides a vital and flexible space for our community. From year-round yoga to monthly pop-up art shows during the summer months, from figure drawing to painting classes, the dome is a resource for Alchemy's programming and our community. In 2024, we plan to improve the dome's lighting and storage, making the space more functional and easier for our community activities. Our goals include installing gallery track lighting and creating a series of storage benches for music, painting, and yoga equipment. Help us provide you with the most wonderful and useful community space that we can offer.
