WHY DIDN'T SHE JUST LEAVE?
What if we stopped asking that question and instead asked her, "How can we help?"
I used to ask that question, too.
Then I became the woman people were asking it about.
I know firsthand the judgment, shame, fear, and misunderstanding surrounding domestic violence. I know how difficult—and sometimes dangerous—it can be to leave. And I know that surviving is only the beginning. Rebuilding your life afterward presents an entirely different set of challenges.
When I finally found my way out, I wasn't walking into some beautiful new beginning. I was a single mother trying to rebuild a life for my son and myself after financial abuse had left us with just $4.87.
I had survived. But surviving and rebuilding are two very different things.
I believe we need to change the conversation. Because when survivors are met with understanding rather than judgment, asking for help becomes a little less frightening.
That's the mission I'm building alongside Signature by KLG.

THE LUXURY IS THE BUSINESS. THE MISSION IS THE LEGACY.
Signature by KLG is a boutique luxury lifestyle and personal consultancy offering highly personalized concierge services, personal styling, bespoke gifting, curated experiences, and thoughtful solutions to life's everyday needs and extraordinary moments.
Every engagement is tailored to the individual, with discretion, creativity, resourcefulness, and exceptional attention to detail at its heart.
But behind the luxury is a deeply personal commitment.
Through The Signature Initiative , I'm working to create meaningful opportunities to support women rebuilding their lives after domestic violence and other life-altering circumstances.
My vision is to dedicate a sustainable portion of my own service fees, alongside future partnerships and outside contributions, to advancing that mission.
I'm taking a world associated with beauty and privilege and using it to open doors to conversations people too often look away from.
Two very different worlds. One purpose.
And quite possibly the most meaningful chapter of my nearly 30-year career.

ONE OPPORTUNITY. A BIGGER STAGE.
Last week, during another sleepless night, I was scrolling through LinkedIn when a post stopped me in my tracks.
Speakers Island, presented by Project Icon.
I sat up, turned on my bedside lamp, found my reading glasses, and started reading.
The more I read, the more excited I became.
Twelve entrepreneurs brought together for an intensive weekend of business development, collaboration, professional media production, and an opportunity to refine how they communicate their stories to the world.
A five-hour speaking intensive led by Heather Morrison. The chance to develop a compelling keynote. Immediate feedback from fellow founders. A professionally produced episode, media content, and resources to pursue future speaking engagements.
For most entrepreneurs, those are valuable tools for building a personal brand.
For me, they represent something much bigger.
I've spent nearly three decades building businesses, cultivating relationships, solving problems, and communicating with people from all walks of life.
But put me on a stage?
My stomach practically turns inside out.
Public speaking has always been one of my greatest weaknesses. I can negotiate, organize, create, and confidently engage in a room full of people. But standing in front of an audience and delivering a prepared speech?
That's an entirely different challenge.
And yet, that's precisely the skill I need to develop.
Because I don't want to become a public speaker simply to be on a stage. I want to become an effective public speaker because I have something important to say.
I want to bring conversations about domestic violence, victim shaming, and rebuilding after abuse into rooms where those conversations might otherwise never happen.
I want to help challenge the assumptions that keep survivors silent.
And I want other women to know that a new chapter is possible, even when getting there feels impossible.
For the first time, I saw an opportunity that could help me turn my experiences into a meaningful public platform.
Then I reached the eligibility requirements.
Speakers Island typically looks for founders whose businesses have achieved six-figure revenue.
My heart sank.
I've built three successful businesses, each achieving six figures in revenue. But Signature by KLG is less than six months old and hasn't yet reached that milestone.
I closed my laptop.
For a moment, I convinced myself the opportunity simply wasn't meant for me.
But I couldn't stop thinking about it.
THE CALL I NEVER EXPECTED.
The following morning, after a particularly frustrating tennis session, I checked my phone and noticed a message from an unfamiliar number.
I nearly marked it as spam.
Then I saw two words.
Project Icon.
I nearly dropped my phone.
Blake, the application manager, had noticed my unfinished application. He had taken the time to learn about my background and wanted to know why I hadn't completed it.
One conversation led to another.
Before I knew it, I had a call scheduled with Justin, Project Icon's CEO and executive producer.
I was nervous. Excited. A little intimidated.
But as we talked about my entrepreneurial background, Signature by KLG, and the mission behind the Signature Initiative, something extraordinary happened.
Justin offered me an exception to the program's usual revenue requirements and an opportunity to join the December Speakers Island cohort.
He recognized the potential in what I was trying to build and believed the mission deserved an opportunity to reach a larger audience.
For someone who has spent the past several years fighting to rebuild her life, that recognition meant more than I can adequately express.
And then came the reality.
The participation fee is $7,500.
I'm a single mother, rebuilding financially after an abusive marriage and an extraordinarily difficult divorce. I am solely responsible for supporting myself and my son.
This is not an expense I can responsibly absorb on my own.
But I also recognize what this opportunity could mean.
Not just for my business.
For the mission.
For the women whose stories are too often dismissed, questioned, or never heard.
I'M NOT ASKING YOU TO FUND A WEEKEND.
I'm asking you to help me build a voice that can continue speaking long after that weekend is over.
The opportunity to become a confident, effective public speaker could help me bring the Signature Initiative to a broader audience, develop meaningful partnerships, and work toward building sustainable resources for women beginning their lives again.
A stage won't solve domestic violence.
But it can create conversations.
Conversations can challenge assumptions.
And those conversations can inspire the kind of understanding, support, and action that helps make rebuilding possible.
That's the impact I want to pursue.
1,000 PEOPLE. $10 EACH. ONE MISSION.
My fundraising goal is $10,000.
The Speakers Island participation fee is $7,500, with the remaining $2,500 intended to cover travel, payment processing, and related participation expenses.
I'm giving myself until October 15, 2026 , to make a focused effort to secure the funding and determine whether I can move forward responsibly.
When I broke down the numbers, the goal suddenly felt a little less impossible.
1,000 people contributing $10.
Or 200 contributing $50.
Or a combination of individuals, friends, business owners, and founding sponsors who believe in the potential of what I'm building.
You don't have to make a large contribution to make a difference.
And if contributing isn't possible, simply sharing this campaign with someone who might connect with its mission would mean more than you know.
I have never been afraid of working hard, building something from the ground up, or taking an unconventional path.
But I also know when an opportunity is bigger than what I can accomplish alone.
This is one of those moments.
I've been given the chance to develop the skills, relationships, and platform that could help turn something deeply personal into something meaningful for others.
Now I'm asking for your help to make that opportunity possible.
I didn't share my story because I want pity.
I shared it because I want you to know the person—and the purpose—behind what you're being asked to support.
I'm not asking you to change my past. I'm inviting you to help me build something meaningful from it.
Thank you for reading, for believing in second chances, and for considering being part of mine.
With gratitude,
Karen Lee Green
