Booda is a backyard hen who was, for reasons unknown, dumped along with her sisters in the forest.
Although passersby say they saw several hens dumped that day, no one stopped for them -- and tragically, Booda was struck by a car. No one knows how long she lay there before Monika, a compassionate Denver vegan on a roadtrip through California, happened to spot her in the road.
Fortunately, Monika stopped everything and gathered up the injured hen and drove her right to the vet, then to Hen Harbor for sanctuary. Monika named her Booda in hopes of giving her chance at a peaceful second half of her life.
Xrays have revealed that Booda's right femur is sheared in half, with
the two ends of the bone completely out of alignment. Because she is a
heavy-bodied bird and the break is so high up, surgical intervention
is the only realistic way for Booda to survive.
As you can imagine, Booda is in a great deal of pain and the sooner
we can get her into surgery, the more quickly she can recover. But we
can't commit to surgery unless we can raise the funds to save her!
The estimated cost of Booda's surgery is $1200, but this poor
little bird deserves to get her life back after what cruel humans did
to her.
