Hacinda was rescued from an industrial egg farm in 2013, to live out her life in peace at Hen Harbor sanctuary. Because she was genetically engineered to lay 10 times more eggs than a regular chicken, she has been beset by egg-related health problems.

Just last night, Hacinda was found standing in the barn with her intestines completely hanging out of her body. The reasons for the hole in her adominal wall are manifold, but they are related to complications from past surgeries.

But it's not over for Hacinda. She is remarkably plucky, alert, and lively! Even as we pushed the intestines back into her abdominal cavity and raced her to the vet, she was bright and looking forward to putting this injury behind her and getting back to ruling the roost!

Hacinda may be ready to come home on Friday, at which time her surgery bill will need to be paid. Can you spare a few dollars? No amount is too small, and all donations are tax-deductible.
