A large part of the success of our Day Program and Participants is having a variety of rooms to run programs in. We use these rooms for creative activities, discussion groups, trivia programs, music programs, and other activities that will engage and interest our Program Members. Having separate areas to run these activities provides a distraction free, supportive environment that sets up the program and members for success!

The site brings together over 50 people affected by Alzheimer's disease and related dementias per week to share in celebration, fun, laughter, and friendship. As the location grows, and the number of clients increase each year; these rooms become even more vital to accommodate our members and provide positive experiences.

Music Room/Lounge

Due to the age of our building we are in need of some upgrades to our electrical in order to make the rooms comfortable and maximize the potential of the wonderful space we are so fortunate to have.  We are unable to use our Music Room and Lounge area during the winter months due to the temperature of the room as it is very cold.  We are also in need of new comfortable furniture to enhance the comfort of this space. Once properly heated and furnished, this room will become a nice cozy relaxed home like space for conversations, reminiscence, music and fun.

Craft Room and Sensory Room

These rooms are used for small group programming throughout the day for creative and sensory or independent activities of interest.  In our craft room we paint, make center-pieces for our dining tables for holidays, make crafts, do flower arranging activities and even start some indoor gardening to transplant to our lovely garden in the spring!  The sensory room is a place for soft music, special lighting, aroma therapy, tactile activities and relaxation.  This room decreases anxiety and allows members that need a quieter environment or a break from the group to have some time with staff members for a hand massage or quiet activity of preference.  These rooms currently have carpeting in them and in order to keep the center clean and remove tripping hazards as some of the carpeting is becoming torn and worn, we would like to replace the floors with a durable laminate.  This will assist in the rooms being safer and easier to maintain. 

Alzheimer Society Peel is the largest chapter in Canada providing over 42,000 individuals with programs and services each year. This number is continually growing and with limited funding available we ask for the community’s assistance in purchasing new materials so staff can continue to care for our beloved seniors affected by this horrible disease.

About Alzheimer Society Peel

The Alzheimer Society Peel was incorporated in 1983 as a charitable non-profit organization to alleviate the personal and social consequences of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias; to help find the cause, prevention and cure.  Since that time, our Chapter has diligently worked to support families and individuals affected by the disease. The Society serves the Region of Peel through our offices in Brampton and Mississauga.  Our Chapter promotes public and professional awareness of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias and offers a variety of programs and services.  All services and programs operate either free of charge or for a nominal fee. Alzheimer Society Peel is the largest chapter in Canada and the first to become accredited for its services and programs by CARF International.
