Redwood Shores Little Free Community Pantry Project
We are 4th-grade Junior Girl Scouts in Troop 61883. We are working on our Bronze Award project, which involves providing a lasting benefit to our community.
For our project, we would like to place a “Little Food Pantry” community pantry at Redwood Shores Elementary school. The food pantry would be similar to a little library; people can donate or take canned/ non-perishable goods as needed.
Here is our plan:
- We are fundraising to build and stock the pantry. We are fundraising through this donation site, as well as selling homemade blind bags.
- We will check and restock the pantry every Friday.
- The pantry will be closed during summer break.
- When the pantry is installed, we will use fliers, Parent Square and other outreach to help announce the news to the community.
-We will make a sign explaining the pantry rules:
• Non-perishable, shelf-stable food (canned goods, bottled water, rice, pasta, boxed meals, cereal, snacks, baby formula, pet food) are allowed in sealed packaging.
• Hygiene products (soap, toothpaste, feminine products, diapers, deodorant) in sealed packaging are allowed.
• Items that are not allowed: Anything expired, homemade food, alcohol, medications, clothing, sharp items, cleaning chemicals, anything that needs refrigeration (before opening).
• Don’t take everything at once.
• Please help keep the pantry tidy, and be respectful of the school grounds.
• If you see expired food, please throw it away.
• Always close the pantry door to keep rain and animals out.
We aim to install the pantry in the spring of 2026, before the end of the school year. The sooner we get enough donations, the faster we can get it installed and operational. 100% of donations will go directly to the costs of building and installing the pantry and stocking it. Thank you for your donation!
