Victoria Therapeutic Riding Association (“VTRA”) has been in operation since 1985. Initially known as Victoria Riding for the Disabled, the name was changed in 2011 to more inclusive language and to reflect the therapeutic intent of the program.
VTRA facilitates the following core programs that include:
Adaptive or Therapeutic Riding— a mounted program for those with diverse abilities, emphasizing the development of riding skills, client-centered goals, and social interaction. Participants are generally organized according to their goals and learning objectives.
Adaptive Driving program—designed to teach those with diverse abilities how to drive a horse-drawn cart. Lessons focus on the development of driving skills and are tailored to individual goals.
Stable Management programs—three distinct unmounted programs designed to teach those of diverse abilities about horse care and safety in a barn setting. Classes are Beginner level or Intermediate level and are offered to participants ages 6 and up.
