Our mission at Ryan's Hope is to advocate for and support those living with mental illness, substance use issues, an experiencing homelessness. We are committed to building community, connection and confidence.
The first program of Ryan's Hope was our Breakfast-T0-Go program but there is so much more to what we do at Ryan's Hope than just serve breakfast. As we are a new and evolving organization we respond in real time to the needs of the people we are serving. Here is a brief update on some of the beyond 'Breakfast' work we have done in the past few weeks.
We held a small intimate memorial service for a member of community that had passed. It was a beautiful celebration of a young life. RIP Caroline.
We helped a man that was recently housed furnish his room and make his home a little more warm and cozy with the mini-fridge, heater, and lamp we gave him.
We dropped of some winter clothing to a single dad for his young daughter. She dropped by at breakfast to get a cheese string and to thank us.
We delivered care packs to some of our housed friends and friends living in encampments.
And we distributed coats, hats, gloves, sleeping bags to our friends sleeping outside.
I did an interview with a high school class that wanted to learn more about how the toxic drug crisis is affecting our community. I also participated in numerous other advocacy activities related to the housing crisis, and toxic drug crisis in our community including participating in Getting to Tomorrow dialogues and advocating for a proactive and comprehensive plan to meet the winter needs of those currently unsheltered in our community..
When we moved from grassroots to official non-profit organization the move was thought out carefully with intention and deliberation. We chose to become a non-profit vs a charity because we do not want to do charity work. We are committed to addressing the root causes of the issues that led to charity work being necessary. To do this we must be able to be free to advocate on behalf of those we are serving. Being a non-profit allows for this freedom
If you would like to support the important work we do please consider becoming a Ryan's Hope patron. By committing to being a patron you give us security in knowing we have a guaranteed amount of income coming in monthly which allows us to direct it to area of most immediate need. We are a 100% volunteer run organization and are supported 100% by donations we receive from the community.
We invite you to join us in supporting compassion, fostering relationships, and advocating for better. We are truly stronger together!
Thank you
