The Dayton Legacy Scholarship Foundation was initially established in 2022 with a $100 bill and a hug at the 30-year reunion for the Potomac Senior High School Class of ‘92.
The pivotal transaction between two seemingly polar opposite people (in high school & now) who had not seen each other since graduation in June 1992, took place in a dimly-lit, messy little hallway, leading to the parking lot back exit. The words exchanged sparked an entire movement.
The Dayton Legacy Scholarship honors the memory of Potomac Sr. High School Class of ‘92’s fallen classmate, Navy EODSC Scott C. Dayton, a highly decorated soldier with well over 23-years of service to our country. Scott was KIA in Syria in November (on Thanksgiving Day) 2016. The scholarship fund and Foundation itself has the goal of awarding individual $1500 scholarships annually to at least two (2) graduating high school seniors. At least one (1) will always be awarded to a Potomac High School Senior.
At least one (1) $1500 scholarship is dedicated for students planning to attend a traditional 4-year college or university the following year; and at least one (1) $1500 scholarship is dedicated for students with less traditional post-high school plans ( i.e. vocational or trade school, associate’s degree, military enlistment).
All donations raised from this site (less the processing fee) will be deposited directly into a dedicated tax-exempt IRS scholarship bank account where all donations will remain until recipients are chosen and awarded directly to the recipients through the high school.
